Not this year, but this or next summer...

Why? Well realistically he will have NO other option if he opts for free agency this year or next unless some major moves from another team are made. LA is NOT happening, Melo wants multiple years to contend and the Lakers are well on their way out. If Cs can flip Gerald Wallace's contract for a expiring or two...well yea. Melo is coming.

Whose going to give up expiring for Wallace's contract? Who in their right mind would want that ridiculous contract, especially with Wallace's mediocre play as of late?

It's the one thorn in an otherwise highway robbery trade for Danny with the Nets

Don't get me wrong Danny would be foolish to not pursue someone like Melo, but it's harder than that

Not if he comes as a free agent.

Cosign.
triple sign
put melo in the josh smith category
why isn't he better?
i'll take the team play of jeff green, good all around game over the superior scoring of the ball stopping out of shape, poor defending carmelo

not happening, I can see Danny making a run at him and Lebron. They might/will hang up on Danny, but he will try

If I remember correctly, he did the same with Dwight, but Dwight just said no thanks...

knowing Danny, Danny will try to go for the best player available for the right price.

So who do we get? a lineup of Rondo/AB/Green/Sully/Asik is WAY to good to be a lottery team and way to bad to contend. That's not a contender. Ainge seems to be positioning himself to win now. There is literally no one else who makes sense. I don't want Kevin Love, Sully i think could be better than him. LA is staying. There are no real good SGs that would come here. It's either trade Ronod and tank or get Melo try to go all out.

So you take 2nd round exits for the next 4 years? You take the Joe Johnson/Josh Smith Hawks route? NO THANKS.

If it's Bass/Lee/pick for Asik...

We already heard about a potential Humph (1 year)/Wallace (3 year) for Amare (2 year) salary swap that would save the Knicks 10 mil next season, but stick them with Wallace for an extra season.

You could do...

Melo (21 mil) - 2 years (opt out option this summer)
Amare (21 mil) - 2 years

for

Humph - 10 mil - expiring
Wallace - 10 mil - 3 years
Green - 8 mil - 2 years
Bogans - 5 mil expiring
Crawford - 2 mil expiring
... then either Sully, Oly or Fav
Our two 2014 1st round picks...
Maybe more picks?

Not sure if the Knicks could take on that many players.  But it would get them a reasonably talented player (Green), the option of hanging onto Crawford, like 15-17 mil in expiring contracts and multiple draft picks to build around.  The only negative would be getting stuck with Wallace for 3 years... oh and losing by far the best player in the trade.

If the Knicks then did the rumored Chandler/Smith/Shumpert for Pau Gasol trade... Gasol is an expiring contract.  The knicks would suddenly have a ton of cap space next season to start over.  LeBron's a free agent.  Just sayin.

For the record, Melo is about the same level of talent as Paul Pierce... except that he's never missed the playoffs and Pierce toiled away on losing teams until KG arrived in Boston.  Both had their fair share of temper tantrums and "bad apple" labels.

Melo's bad rep is silly.  He's the same age as Pierce was when the saviors (KG and Ray) turned us into a brief contender.

I don't understand how Carmelo Anthony joins the Boston Celtics as a free agent. What kind of contract is he going to sign?

Assuming this Asik deal goes down, Boston will have $46 mil in guaranteed salary before counting Bradley's new deal and the 2014 rookies. Projected salary cap for 2014-15 is $62 mil.

stockpile of draft picks
danny is quickly making the celtics into the pacers
we are possibly giving up ONE pick in asik deal, jersey is soon to be really bad
the one pick is for signing doc and then letting him go to clips (if rumor is true)

Yeah, it's impossible unless we're burning draft picks like matches to get rid of Wallace's salary.
