Whats the point in being the third best team with little room for growth?

I like Asik some, but like many big men he has obvious flaws, also I think like Rondo, AB, and Green he's maxed out his potential.

In my mind we might as well hold onto our picks and try to trade up in the draft/trade for a player with more potential rather than trade for Asik.

I don't think so either, I said trade up. Trade up for Embiid from Kansas, he's a high potential big and we have the time to develop him. This draft has a pretty nice top 10, and I think we can definitely get in around the 6th with some sort of package.

Embiid is projected in the top 3 on some boards now, and if he would be available at 6, GMs wouldn't ever trade out of 6 for the same reasons that you want him.

I guess we just disagree, I don't see it as that much of a long shot given just how many assets we have we can't swing a trade for the 6-8th pick. I don't think theres anyway to know for sure that GM's wouldnt do it.

This is so far into the future, the landscape can change so much, I don't think its realistic to rule anything out especially with Ainge.

But this is all really to say I don't see why on a rebuilding team I'd hitch my wagon to a fully developed big. Look what detriot did with Drummond. We've got nothing to lose trying to develop a high potential high risk big.

My feeling is that the top 5 of Wiggins-Parker-Randle-Embiid-Exum have been hyped to the point that people basically won't trade a pick that could net one of those for anything less than an actual star.

That may be true, its so early its hard to tell but the hype is definitely out of control. At the same time this makes me curious.

Are you satisfied with our current assets? It sounds like you're not too impressed with our current stockpile of picks, and if so I feel the same way. Right I really only see Sully as our valuable asset, everything else feels kind of filler.

This is why I want so badly to trade up, we don't have that kind of player on our team, and while I like asik I don't think he makes a huge difference unless we have a #1 option.

I mentioned this in another post, but I think we should essentially give up on the idea that we could draft a franchise player this year and use our picks aggressively to build up on what we have (with players like Asik) and dump Wallace's salary. I think we have decent assets and while our picks may not be high, they aren't totally useless.

Put together a decent core, leave a max-contract sized hole in our salary bill, and wait and see what happens. (Alternatively, that 2016 Nets pick might strike gold...)

And while free agency isn't guaranteed to get us a franchise player, I think at this point it's probably more realistic than the draft.

I am not sure about this..even when I understand where it came from

Yeah, I'm just not ready to rely on something thats never happened for our team in the past. We didn't become the most successful franchise in the NBA through signing big time free agents in free agency, we got here through smart drafting/trades.
