Those Rondo-to-SAC rumblings have been shot down pretty firmly ... but I continue to hear Celts remain at heart of trade mix for Omer Asik

As Dec. 19 draws near, more & more folks forecasting three-team Asik deal & Boston right there w/Philly now in terms of likely destinations

Couple tweets Marc Stein just put out tonight. This thing might have some wheels.

so it will be
Asik = Bass vs Hawes/Thad Young

Hope we can snatch Asik just don't give Green to the Rockets that's too much for Asik

Why are Bogans and Brooks included at all?  Neither have to be -  the salaries without them work just fine, except Philly isn't taking on $6 mil of payroll.
Because the idiot who concocted the "rumour" has no idea what he's doing.

Brooks actually probably has negative value in a trade at this stage of his career. He's under contract  through next season, and whatever game he had has fallen off a cliff.

The Celtics did not pick up Brooks' option for next year (tbat deadline was the same day as when Bradley could accept an extension back in October), so he's pure salary filler this year.  That said, his salary fills no void in this trade, so he's really just valueless.

In the rumor it's to get Philadelphia to the salary floor (salary they have to pay out anyways)

So basically Danny's paying them a 1st for salary they would've paid out regardless and Thad Young. Which might not sound like much but it's a steal for Danny.

But there's no penalty (as far as I've been able to tell) for missing the floor.  The money they should have spent is just divided amongst the sixers players.  I'd think they'd want to keep that salary space to sell to someone else (since I'd have I believe the celtics would do this deal without dumping extra salary.). But then, why am I debating minutiae on a silly realgm rumor?!?  The rockets need to hurry up and trade Asik so I can obsess on something else.

Without commenting on whether the rumor has merit, I think enough of these rumors are simply repeated by multiple people that "more and more folks" doesn't mean much of anything.

If Humphries, Bogans, Brooks, and the 2015 LAC 1st can get Asik, sign me up.

Why?!??!?!?!?!

There is no WAY I'm giving up Humphries, Bougans, Brooks (all pretty much expiring contracts) AND a first round pick for Asik!!

Do you realise how much Asik makes next year? Do you realise how mediocre a center he is?

Do you realise how badly he fits the needs of this team?

Do you realise that we would be better off keeping Hump, Bougans and Brooks, then letting the combined $19M come off our books, then using some of that $19M to sign a Free Agent that is FAR superior to Asik?

The only way I am giving up Hump, Bougans and Brooks in a deal is if I'm getting back one of the following in return:

a)  A highly talented scorer with the potential to be a #1 scoring option (think: Rudy Gay, etc)

b)  A young player with the potential to be a future star (think: Paul George two seasons ago)

c)  A decent young player with potential, plus at least one draft pick (with the potential to be lottery

Do we need to have a separate thread every time someone decides they have a radically groundbreaking post to make about Omer Asik? That's getting a bit annoying already.

THANK YOU!!

I'm not sure if this is serious but if you think that a Hump/Bogans/Brooks package is going to get you something more than Asik then you are mistaken.

Do you realize his cap out is 8.374 million, and not $15 million?  His contract is not an albatross.  Also, assuming the celtics keep Bradley, they were only going to have $5-6 million in cap room anyway next year, maybe a little more than the MLE.  That's not worth crying about not having.  And, in this trade, they'd get a $12 million trade exception for Hump, and a $5 million trade exception for Bogans.  They would have no problem adding a player in a sign-and-trade with that kind of exception.

Asik would make our team better, at the cost of a 2015 pick that is likely to be in the low 20s, and a backup power forward, who becomes superfluous when our starting center shifts over to power forward to make room for our new starting center.  And, in this crazy universe of a trade, the C's have about $10 million in room under the luxury tax this year, to make another trade at the deadline (and again, have trade exceptions).  I think there's no way this trade happens.  I don't love Asik all that much, but this trade would be a huge win for Danny if it went through.

Go take about 10 deep breaths.

I may have missed the satire.  Good (potential) catch.

if we get Asik for expirings and a pick, I think that's very reasonable

hope ddb is right

I have def been on the "I don't really want Asik" side of the fence on all these rumors.  But if DA can pull off this type of deal where we only give up the draft pick from the clippers and a bunch of guys who aren't playing anyways, I would say go for it.

It doesn't seem likely that we will be pulling in any of the high profile free agents this summer.  As long as we don't commit huge long term money to Asik I am fine with it.

If you are right about all that, than that would be a major win for Danny!!

If that's the deal, it sounds too good to be true.

So it would look something like this.

Boston Out: Hump/Bogans/Brooks/2015 Clips
Boston In: Asik

Philly Out: Young
Philly In: Hump/Bogans/2015 Clips pick

Houston Out: Asik
Houston in: Young/Brooks

Good for Boston.

Not sure that late first rounder that will be the Clips pick would be any better than Young is already for the Sixers.  Getting their salaries up to salary cap floor is no difficult thing for them.  They just gift somebody a contract like Bogans received.  They'd essentially be gambling that a late 20s pick from the Clips would turn out to be better than Young.  They're already bad enough to get a top 5 pick.  If that was their main angle, I'd think getting rid of their starting center Hawes would more fit the bill.

As for Houston, Young and Brooks seem a very poor return for Asik.  Of the Philly players, they'd want Hawes (quality backup center, and stretch 4 in some lineups), and I think they'll want a first from someone.  I can't see this happening as presented.

For chuckles, a realistic response from a Houston site was:

Quote
People it's from the Celtics fan forums! Of course it's gonna look as stupid as some of the clutchfans rumors you've seen on this site like, "Asik Lin and Dmo for Kevin Love Hawes and a lotto pick to be named later". That's just the nature of fan forum myopia. Don't get too upset.

Welcoming Woj to the conversation ladies and gentleman,

With Rockets determined to make Omer Asik deal within 48 hours, Hawks, Celtics, Cavs, 76ers most serious suitors, league sources tell Yahoo.

Beyond Atlanta, Boston, Cleveland and Philadelphia, I know there's one more significant team in Asik mix. "A wildcard," a source says.
