Lebron Number one. Obvious reasons. Right on his heels Dwight Howard the definition of a knuckle head. And Carmelo. I've tried to talk myself into accepting  him playing on the  Celtics  recently and I just can't do it. I know him to well.

That's it for me though Bosh and Wade to but there not stars anymore. I'd love it if we could offer Anthony Davis 100 Million when he's up in two and a half years. How many guys would you just rather not even win with.

To me, winning is winning.  As long as the player isn't a bad guy off the court (which none of the players you mentioned are), then I don't care as long as we're winning.  A guy like Gilbert Arenas or Zach Randolph 8 years ago I would not have wanted.

Which makes me realize... the NBA has really cleaned up a lot in recent years, huh?  While the NFL is becoming the league that is facing an image problem.

Why on earth would anyone not want Lebron James on his team?  Never in trouble off the court.  Definitely cares about winning.  Wants to always do the right thing.  Works harder than everyone else.  First one in and last one to leave.  And most importantly, by far the best player on the planet.

You need to put your personal reasons aside because if any of these guys are on the Celtics, I would embrace them and I would love them if they could bring us a championship. Guys like Pierce, KG, and Rondo are not exactly the most liked players around the league either. We just love them because they're Celtics.

Kobe is the only guy I wouldn't want to play for the Celtics at this point.

I'd love to have Lebron here.  My guess is that his ego is a little easier to take when he's winning your franchise titles.

Good point Roy. But I'll pass. I think Parker looks like a great kid off the court, I'd trade a lot to get him.

To be honest I don't think you know any of those guys well at all. I would love to have any of them on our team. I'm not going to say I want melo on this team but he makes the most sense. Pair him with rondo and his numbers are going to be off the wall

The league is far from the days of the nineties and early aughts where entitled divas had more paycheck than game. I wouldn't have a problem with most of the superstars playing today joining the Celts.

The exceptions I can think of are DeMarcus Cousins and Dwight Howard. Cousins may have mellowed but his history is not the greatest. Howard seems like a nice guy but its troubling how immature he still is for someone who's been in the league a long time. I would also be conflicted if JR Smith joined the team, but of course he's not really a star.

This conversation reminds me of two past Celts I was conflicted in rooting for: Marbury (way past his prime so it was ok) and Ricky "triple double" Davis.

Now, if you asked me which "stars" I wouldn't want on the Celts from a pure basketball standpoint the list gets a lot longer...

From a personality/likability perspective, no one. I would accept anyone who can help us win. This is pro sports, not a political election or someone to teach our kids. My issue with some of the stars is wether investing the cap space they would require is a good investment towards winning though. Dwight Howard as others have said is still immature and not a legit leader on the floor, and I don't see him handling the pressure in playoff games. Melo's team has been desperate for a true leader this year, and he has failed. There are others, but those are they type of examples related to player personalities that I would think twice about investing in them. Derrron "coach killer" Williams is another.

Don't want Lebron?  Wow.  He would be the first one that I would pick.  He is the best, plays hard, focused on winning.  I didn't like the decision crap but that would not prevent me from wanting him on my favorite team.

Dwight Howard I agree with.  I just think he is overrated and his clown antics would affect the team.

Carmelo I am somewhat undecided on.  He has his flaws for sure but he isn't a total clown like Howard.  At this point in the Celtics team development, I would probably pass on Carmelo but there are other situations where I think you take him.

I have nothing against any of the 'stars' in the NBA. I dont really want a guy who isnt going to give a reasonable max effort and who doesnt put the team first. That could have been Paul Pierce at times and certainly Carmelo Anthony in the past. In both cases I think they have matured and that is no longer an issue.

Currently I question the value vs effort of Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum. I think McHale is getting  some decent play out of Howard now. I think Bynum really scr**ed the 76'ers. I know people will say he wasnt healthy, but they payed him a bunch of money for nothing. He basically stayed off the court for a season and got a free paycheck. I know it is a business, but I hope there is some insurance or some protection for this type of thing. It just doesnt feel right.

If winning is a given, there is no one I wouldn't want to win with.
If I had to choose my least favorite star, it would be Kobe hands-down.  But if he came here and we won a championship, I'd be ecstatic.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I'm sure a lot of people hated Garnett before he came here. Gotta be one of the most hated guys in the league.

Same thing with Lebron- when the wins start coming- he'll suddenly be welcome without open arms.

I want a championship. Whoever gets us that is who I want. I want Lebron or Durant.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

First of all winning isn't everything. I could never pull for a team with a scum bag on it.

Kobe Bryant - For one he's old now and he's hurt. He's also a scum bag.

Carmelo Anthony- Because I truly don't believe he's someone you can't build around to be a champion. Perhaps as a number two guy on the team but not the first option. And Championship teams play defense. He's allergic to defense.

Dwight Howard - He's an idiot. I turn the channel when he's talking on TV. I'm also not sold on him being the kind of guy that will take you to the promise land. Better chance then Carmelo however.

I'll be honest, I never really liked KG. Not even when he played for us but I didn't dislike him as much as people like Kobe or AI back then. So I held my nose when watching him here. Having Paul and Ray helped me out with it all.
