Who do we keep? Rondo or Crawford?

Rajon Rondo: 11.1 points, 11.4 assists, 5.4 rebounds, 1.7 steals, 3 pointers 24%, free throws 65%, Win shares per 48 mins 10.8 (on much stronger overall team obviously) Defensive rating 103 points per 100 possessions, offensive rating 103 points per 100 possessions, usage 21.7%.
Salary 2014: $13 million. Coming off major surgery.
Age 27.


Can't see Danny keeping both these guys. So who goes?
Answer probably isn't as straight forward as you think.
If Crawford can be signed for something like 7 million over 3 years, does Danny bite?
Does Danny think Crawford would accept a bench role 'mentally'? Seemed to really hurt his mentality coming from Washington to warm the bench.

Or does Crawford get offered 10 million a year by another team?
Remember Rondo can walk in 15 months and he's coming off the knee operation- these things weigh on the ultimate decision. Rondo is the better player, but if Crawford plays like this for the rest of his career, is he worth considering?

Jordan Crawford's play so far has been hands down the story of this young season.  I really like the prospect of a three man guard rotation of Rondo, Bradley, and Crawford. 

I can't wait until Rondo returns to see how it all plays out.  I don't expect Jordan to become sulky and cancerous.  Like Doc said in his post game press conference last night, sometimes players mature a little bit later.  I think Jordan Crawford is maturing.  What a pick up for the Celtics!  We basically got him for nothing. 

I didn't think he'd win me over, but he definitely has.

Rondo averaged 11.4 assists/36 in 2011-12.  His points/36 that year were 11.6, though, not 11.1.  His career per-36 numbers are 9.1 assists and 11.1 points.   Last year, his per-36 numbers were 10.6 assists and 13.2 points.  So your numbers seem a little confusing.

So far, during this hot stretch, Crawford is creating about 31.8 points per 36 through assists and scoring.  That's very good.  Those are Westbrook-like numbers.

Using last year's numbers,  Rondo created about 36.8 points per 36.

Considering Rondo's superior defense and rebounding, I'll keep Rondo.  Thanks.

Since when has Crawford ever done anything special? By the way, you think Crawford can maintain better numbers at the end of the year? I seriously doubt it. If you can you use Rondo as a one piece, and try to build on a strong SF/Defensive Center.

Both.....Rondo starts. Crawford will be the combo guard off the bench who is so effective at both the PG and SG role that this team has been missing since Eddie House stopped making his shots regularly

And to top it off, the guy is big enough to see minutes at the off guard.

I don't understand this mania with trading. This is not a stock exchange simulation, accumulating assets is nice, but the ultimate goal is to find the best players to put on the floor.

Here's where it gets odd:

Ultimately, most people here will agree that Bradley is a prospect that has some talent and should probably be developed. And Crawford, who has exactly the same amount of NBA experience and is just 2 years older somehow is classified as a "veteran" who should be "showcased".

Crawford is a flawed player, but so is Bradley. And I don't think anyone will argue that the talent is there.

I don't get it either.  As soon as a Celtic player starts to play well, for some reason, it's time to trade him while their value is high rather than using their good play to help us. 

BTW, don't the Celtics need a good 3 guard rotation?  Well they have that in Rondo, Bradley and Crawford.  Leave it alone.

Keep Rondo & try to get Crawford on a team friendly contract.  If you can't, don't overpay and let him walk.

Rondo is a cornerstone guy.  Crawford is not but would be a great rotation guy to have.  The thing is, you just can't overpay those rotation guys.  That's where teams get in big trouble.

This probably would have been a good question had it been asked at the right time which is the end of the season when we've seen a full year of JC and also know somewhat how Rondo's rehab has worked out.
But if you must ask now.....I say, try and make Crawford understand how useful he would be in a back up role to Rondo. that would be a point guard tandem on steroids!!!

Last couple of games showed how much we need a scorer of the bench. that could be Crawford.
