Though a source told the Herald last week that Rajon Rondo was expected to meet with his knee surgeon, Dr. James Andrews, at some point between Dec. 7 and 10 for clearance to practice, Rondo pushed the date back to an equally vague date.

“I might see him during my holidays,” he said last night before the Celtics beat the Denver Nuggets, 106-98.

The Celtics are expected to have an extended Christmas break following their Dec. 22 game at Indiana. That period, between Dec. 22 and either Dec. 26 or 27, when the team resumes practice, may be the window for this summit.

I think he needs to return between Jan 8th-26th in order to have 10-20 games to showcase him.

Yeah obviously. If it was up to LB33, he would of already traded Rondo 13 times  :P

I swear to god, some of you won't be happy until we ship Rondo out of town for a bag of chips.

We're not showcasing Rondo.  >:(

We already got ah startin PG.  Jordan Crawford.  Futcha hall-ah-fameah.

Rondo per-36:  13 points, 11 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 4 turnovers 49%/24%/65%

Crawford per-36:  17 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 2.6 turnovers, 46%/39%/89%

Crawford's the better fit.  He can shoot the ball.  Rondo will hog the ball, make Jeff Green stand in the corner and the team will fall apart.  Gotta keep that Brad Stevens ball-movement and Crawford floor-spacing.  Trade Rondo for a defensive center like Omer Asik.

I'm not serious, of course.  I'm looking forward to seeing Rondo play with these guys.

Sounds like a late January / early February return.

I agree, it might be too short a window to be able to trade him.  Might have to be a draft day / off-season thing, if it does happen.

I just don't see Rondo being traded this year or next unless something goes awful wrong to cause it.

Take all the time you need Rondo. Push the meeting back again if you must.

There are two main reasons I think Rondo being traded during the season is unlikely

1) He won't be back soon enough to play for a long enough time to establish that he's still the same player after the knee injury.

2) The draft is held in such high regard this season that teams with younger assets who might view Rondo as the one piece that could turn them into a legitimate playoff team might not be willing to trade much to get him, because his value has to be weighed against the value of remaining awful to get a high pick.

I could see Danny trading Rondo sometime in the off-season (or maybe on draft day) if some GM gives him a really nice offer, but at this point I'd be pretty surprised if it happens sooner.
