The 76ers may be a "viable destination" for disgruntled Rockets center Omer Asik, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

It showed thad young for asik

Makes sense for Houston. Makes absolutely zero sense for Philli.

It makes some sense, if you assume that Philly is going to make another deal later in the season.

You mean flipping Asik or Hawes later on?

If they keep Asik they end up with Noel and Asik who are suppose to be very similar players. I just don't get it on paper.

Do they plan to play Hawes and Asik together? Looks like a disaster waiting to happen.

Hawes shoots a lot of jumpers.  It might work but culturally towards winning they are bankrupt and have been since Moses and Dr. Jones left.
He may shoot a lot of jumpers, but that won't help him guard PFs.

I have heard that allegedly Dwight did not get along with Bass YEARS AGO, but I would think that Bass would be a solid addition for the Rockets at much cheaper than Young.

Thoughts?

And what about Nerlens Noel?
I had forgotten about him. Perhaps they plan to use Hawes as the first big off the bench?

I really don't see how anyone could claim Asik and Noel are at all similar players.

Asik is a 7'+ 'ground-bound' plodder, Noel is a 6'10" (at best) skinny-as-a-rail athlete.  About the only thing they have in common is a lack of offensive skill.

I do agree, the fit would be questionable though.

They are both centers who are defenders and rebounders who have little offensive skill.  That qualifies as similar in my book.

Yes.  The 76ers were reportedly interested in flipping Evan Turner and Hawes as expiring contracts.

Hawes is rebounding and making shots at a rate significantly higher than anything he has done in his career, so this might be a good time for them to sell high.

A source said Rockets center Omer Asik, who just switched agents to power broker Arn Tellem, is "going to be moved really soon."

Two sources said "it makes a lot of sense" for Asik to be traded to the Atlanta Hawks for power forward Paul Millsap. In that scenario, Asik would slip into the starting center position in Atlanta alongside Al Horford, and Millsap would become the starting power forward in Houston next to Dwight Howard.

One NBA scout said the trade would be more beneficial to the Rockets.

"Asik is a liability for Atlanta," the scout said. "I think he's a talented rebounder and a pretty good basketball player all around, but Atlanta needs better point guard play besides Jeff Teague."

If by "really soon" our source means "immediately after the ten-day league-mandated moratorium after receiving new representation," then OK.

Pretty sure a player can be traded without officially having their agent..

You're right: it's ten days before Tellem can officially begin representing Asik.

Asik will be traded before December 19th and likely after December 15th.  Both dates make sense, the 15th because then everyone is available and the 19th because anyone acquired by then can still be traded at the trade deadline.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

If it's for Millsap I believe they have to wait until 12/15 anyway since he was just signed this season.

As a Celtics fan I'm stoked if this is true as we get the least favorable of the Nets/Hawks pick.   I think Atlanta's offense could really suffer with this deal even though Horford may play even better as a PF.

While we're on Asik and Houston, does anyone have an idea what the heck happened to Ronnie Brewer? I remember he used to be good, and it's been 2+ seasons now that he can't get off the bench.

Could it be worth to try swapping Humphries and Brooks for Asik and Brewer?
