While we're on Asik and Houston, does anyone have an idea what the heck happened to Ronnie Brewer? I remember he used to be good, and it's been 2+ seasons now that he can't get off the bench.

Could it be worth to try swapping Humphries and Brooks for Asik and Brewer?
Didn't Brewer have an injury that incapacitated him for almost 6-9 months, or was that Corey Brewer?

Not sure about the injury, but Brewer was never that great.  He was a great athlete who couldn't shoot at all, and whose other skills were not good enough to make up for it.  He played a bit on teams that didn't have anyone better, but I think he was always a disappointment.

A bit? He averaged ~30 mpg and 12 and 14 ppg on two Utah squads that won 54 and 48 games. He was pretty decent early on.

Brewer was a very good defender in his day.  If he had any semblance of an outside jumper he would've been a fine nba player for many years.

David Aldridge: Rockets will trade Asik next Wednesday or Thursday. And do not discount Cleveland/Varejao. Would be perfect fit next to Howard. Twitter - See more at: http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm#sthash.GMduEBXv.dpuf

Varejo would be a pretty good piece for Houston to add next to Howard and Harden. But I dont see why Cavs would want Asik over Varejo.

It's been a while since I've seen Varejao play, due to injuries and crappy small-market teamness.  He's probably mobile enough to play next to Dwight, but has he developed a jumper over the last few years?

He hasn't.

He's good for about 2 jumpers per game, and he's generally efficient on them (48% on jumpers this year, up from around 40% on mid-range / long jumpers last season).

Varejao is 31 and played 31, 25, and 25 games the last three seasons.  Asik is 27 and played every game the last three seasons.  Asik is a better rebounder.

Out of all the rumors so far for Asik I think the Rockets should pursue Paul Millsap.  He has been the best scorer/shooter out of the rumors, and would be a great fit for them.

Haha, talk about your backhanded compliments.

Wonder if the Rockets would wind up sticking with the Jones/Howard lineup that's worked so well and use Varejao as a utility big off the bench.  Seems like they're much better off in that offense with a 4 that has some perimeter skills.

Agreed, but Atlanta just signed him and is probably pretty happy with him so far.  I don't see them moving him so quickly for what is likely a lateral move at best.

If Jones wasn't in the deal I doubt they'd pull him for Sideshow Bob. Sideshow bob is experienced and comfortable coming off the bench as your energy big man, I have a lot more confidence in him in that role than Jones.

Varejao is almost just as bad a fit alongside Dwight as Asik is.

The Cavs had huge problems playing Varejao + Shaq together.
