I'm so annoyed by Celtic fans who don't wanna tank... Talking about getting a big name free agent and we're set... I feel like we're as delusional as Lakers fans but worse because NO FREE AGENTS IN OR ABOUT TO BE IN THEIR PRIME ARE GOING TO THE CELTICS! You keep saying that draft history shows its not kind to the celtics? Well I'm pretty sure free agency history is even worse. Minus the gift from McHale who gave us KG and the #5 pick that landed us Ray.Only out of their prime players come here, last time we won a championship then 5years of injury plagued seasons, I loved the ride but we need a young championship caliber team, and it starts with a young superstar, which we don't have! And we aren't getting a free agent superstar and we aren't trading for one unless they're very unhappy and demand it but then we have to get our roster to even get them, not happening, the smarter and more realistic route is through the draft, sorry we are Far away from another title, we're not just a few pieces, we are so FAR away so for the best future we should tank when it's the perfect time. Fate gave us a golden opportunity to tank and build with rondo and get him with a young superstar but we're blowing it so Ainge needs to make some trades ASAP, and about building a winning culture, since when did becoming the bucks and hawks making the playoffs every year then getting decimated in the first round qualify as a winning culture? No thank you I'll take winning titles as a true winning culture. We're the Celtics, we celebrate titles not winning the division and making the playoffs.  On a side note, please don't say I'm not a true fan, I been a fan for 30 years and do not want to go through another 22 year drought.  There's 3 or 4 possible superstars in this draft, proven or not, there's a possibility they can help change the franchise around. we traded PP and KG for a chance to land a good pick in the draft.

No fan on here wouldn't take a team of Rondo, Wiggins or Parker, Green, Sullinger and whoever we have at center next season?

So I guess let's celebrate their 8-12 record on top of the Atlantic and a 4th seed just to get bounced in the first round of the playoffs, sounds exciting.  Let's see how many real Celtic fans I ticked off.

But watch it with the defensiveness and "real fan" talk. The latter is against our rules and the former generally just leads to flame wars.

I agree with you and understand the need to rant. However, I wish you had brought something new to the conversation if starting a new thread. Also, everybody (I've seen other people do it too) should try to avoid vague subject titles (thanks moderator).

1. Parker could stay at Duke another year.

2. Other teams out there are WAY worse then the Celtics. I'm not sure we could ever be as bad as them. So even if they try we won't get a top pick.

Players dont want to lose it kills everything you have in a locker room. you cant force an outcome you have no control over so tanking is pretty dumb if you ask me

I like what danny is doing with the team he just keeps building and building till eventually hes wealthy

rondo+winning=good free agents add some draft prospects and develope your rookies with a good coach=unlimited potential

we are 8-12 would you think that would have happen at the start of the season.. no because you thought this team sucked and needed a savior...smh you cant make your players lose we already had a better roster then most teams anyway there is no way we get a top 3 pick unless hawks and nets are terrible which danny already knew what he got himself into

expect a pick in the 10-14 range maybe even higher because the nets will eventually do better and the hawks will eventually do worse

Problems with tanking:

1. Other teams can tank harder.

2. Ping ping balls can drop a bottom three team out of a top-five pick.

3. Tanking destroys the value of your currently rostered players, so you don't get maximum value in trades.

Personally, I'd rather rebuild through solid trading and a lottery finish than a fire sale and only a chance at a top 3 pick.

  Even if you were somehow able to sway the opinion of every person here to "pro-tank" that would accomplish nothing. The team's going to try and win games. Short of knee-capping the players you're just going to have to deal with the results.

That's a specious argument if I've ever heard one. It took three 1st round picks for the C's to acquire McAdoo and they used one of the two 1st rounders they got back when they traded him away for the epic #1 and #13 for #3 and Parish, whereby the C's then picked up McHale at #3. Bird was a #6 pick and Parish was originally a #8 pick--so it took three picks in the top eight to get the real Big Three.

KG and RA were both #5 picks, and PP fell to #10, though he had been expected to go earlier. So Big Three were three picks in the top 10. For the C's to get RA, and KG, it took the #5 pick (who turned out to be Jeff Green), as well as the a historic 7-for-1 deal for KG that included two firsts, one of which ended up being a #6, as well.

The Hawks are a playoff team easily in this east, and if we make the playoffs our pick can't be any better than 15th.
