Do you really think we need a trade to help us tank?  I think Rondo coming back will help that, not because he's a bad player, but because I don't think he will be effective right away when he comes back.  We might be talking about letting Crawford run the show until Rondo is back to his old self. ;D  Don't players usually take time before they get back to playing like their old selves?

I remember after KG's injury some of us thought he was done because he didn't look like KG until the following season after he returned from his injury.  Same thing with other players who had to miss nearly a whole season after surgery.

I'm also reminded by Jameer Nelson's injury.  Remember when Orlando was in the Finals?  They brought Nelson back for the finals and he totally screwed the team with the way he played fresh from his injury.

I'm just thinking for the people supporting tanking, that Rondo might be just what you need.

Don't care whether I'm wrong or right about this.  If Rondo comes back and plays great right away, fine.  If not, then we get a lottery pick. ;D
"If somebody would have told you when he was playing with the Knicks that Nate Robinson was going to change a big time game and he was going to do it mostly because of his defense, somebody would have got slapped."  Mark Jackson

Maybe it can give you an idea of what most posters on CB are expecting from Rondo upon return. I don't think he is going to have a negative effect on team success like you do.

Rondo'll be back. Probably in 2014.

"Rajon Rondo update: He's scheduled to meet with Dr. James Andrews in 10-14 days for a checkup on his right knee."

That was on twitter yesterday:

Rondo probably NOT returning in 2014

Excerpts from Jay King's reporting:

Despite several optimistic reports lately, injured Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo is "not close" to a return, president of basketball operations Danny Ainge told 98.5 The Sports Hub Thursday morning.

"I don't think he's close, meaning I don't think it's going to happen for the next few weeks," Ainge said during an appearance on Toucher & Rich.

"We're not on pins and needles about it. We're being very cautious with Rondo, and I think he still has a little bit of a limp. His strength is still not quite there. He is making progress but we're not close."

"He's just not himself yet, but he's getting there and he's pushing himself to get there," Ainge said. "Listen, we're going to be very cautious with him and make sure he's right before he comes back. There's just a little bit of a limp still, and he's got to get that strength in his knee back to 100 percent before we'll let him back out on the court."

But will it be for '13-14 or '14-15?

Yup, 2014.  Maybe even February or something

Rondo is definitely going to play this year as Ainge will want to get his value up for a potential trade this summer.  You can't trade him for anything more than peanuts if he doesn't suit up at all.  I suspect he will come back towards the end of January.  That way he will be on the court at the trade deadline (though I don't think he gets moved this year) and if by some chance he looks like his old self right out of the gate Boston will still have time to acquire pieces around him for a playoff push (if they go that route).  If he takes awhile to get back into shape that will give him a couple of months to get his sea legs under him in an otherwise lost season.

Danny Ainge is just being his usual honest self.

I am not sure if this is sarcastic or not, but in general Danny is very honest.  He just is also very diplomatic.  He keeps a lot of information close to the vest, and is very careful about the way he says things.  If you listen to him carefully, and not in short soundbites, he really is shockingly honest.

Fine with me.

No need to rush him back.  I always thought Jan/Feb was the realistic timetable for his return anyways.

Yeah he really only lies about trade talks, even then he usually just uses weasel words to get around the question.

He's pretty honsest after the deadline and about the team in general.
