I need all of you to humor me for a minute.

Lets say Rondo/Green/Sully were the 3 guys were building  our starting 5 around and we're keeping Jeff at the 3 and Sully at the 4. Rondo is our star PG, Green is our star wing and answer to Paul George, and Sully is our David West type power forward. Keep humoring me.

Who would we need at the 2 and 5 positions to have a championship  caliber starting 5?

I think we need a PP and a Roy Hibbert type with this team.

But who could we get at the shooting guard to fill Pierce's shoes and how could we feasibly get at the 5 to counter Hibbert?

Center could be Gasol, 2 guard could be Harden.
Harden and Rondo could share the ball handling, and Gasol is a good big defeder

Gasol is a perfect choice for the 5 and he might be available sooner than later.

But we have no chance at landing Harden.

I doubt Memphis lets Marc Gasol go anytime soon.

Unless you mean Pau?

Keeping in mind who might be reasonably available, I would go with Eric Gordon and Marc Gasol.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

I truly believe that if we got EITHER of these players without giving up our core, we would be instant semi-contenders.

Keeping in mind who might be reasonably available, I would go with Eric Gordon and Marc Gasol.

Gordon has always been an interesting idea and seems to be totally attainable. Unfortunately he is also an injury risk.

I'm inclined to agree.

Gasol would be a nice addition, but with Sully I think they would be too slow. JaVale 'Shaqtin a Fool' McGee or a Osik would fit in really nice as rim protectors. But at the two I'm sippin the Kool-Aid with Steez.

He should get the starting nod over Bradley once Rondo is back in the cut. Does anyone have Steez's shooting percentage on catch and shoot 3's, also he can get the ball to the middle of the lane and draw a foul, two things that at this point in Bradley's career he can't. They are both small to play the two, but they don't exactly play bully ball in the NBA any longer.

Before I get shot down, I wouldn't mind seeing an Afflalo from Orlando...he's like 28 put he puts in work, and this was before that 43 point game last night.

The guard rotation may be adequate once Rondo comes back. Starting-caliber center definitely remains a need. Perhaps we can sign Monroe with Pierce's exception if he ends up being a free agent?

Gasol has played next to Zach Randolph the past few years - and they've been one of the best big men tandems in the league when Randolph is healthy.

I also like Asik though. Javale, however, can stay far far away. Low motor, no BBIQ, no thank you.

C - Either a stronger Olynyk or Sullinger or both play part time duties

SG - I want Exum.  But AB is playing the same way he did a few years ago. Plus his jumpers are falling and falling and its becoming a pattern. Great defender

Celtics have the pieces to do alot of damage, similiar to how Indiana is doing it today. If Rondo is back 100 percent, the key youngsters Sullinger, Olynyk even Jcraw get better, Jeff Green and AB just keep growing and we continue to get the support from wallace, Bass , Lee, Fav, Pressey we could be a dangerous team.

IF rondo is not back healthy, or never the same again, Danny has a terrific opportunity to draft a key PG as soon as 2014 draft.

I went kind of offtopic, but to answer the OP, we may just have the main pieces already plus a terrific coach to go far and then who knows

When he said humour me I thought they could be unattainable too
