With some players outperforming expectations and a horribly bad Eastern conference, Boston could be heading right where they don't want to be and that's a low playoff seed and a late lotto pick.

I can almost guarantee the moves Danny Ainge makes will be to improve the team in the future and remove some immidiet help for draft picks, young players, ect.

I'll try and break it down into tiers and for arguments sake, these are just my opinions so let's not try and dispute where I place the players, but rather find some deals. With teams hitting the quarter mark injuries are happening and teams are settling in a tad.

So here we go,

Tier #1 (Best trade chip would need no-brainer deal to be moved before this summer)
-Rajon Rondo

Tier #2 (Young(ish) players unlikely to be dealt)
-Jared Sullinger
-Kelly Olynyk
-Vitor Favarani
-Avery Bradley (could be placed in Tier 3 despite being only 22)
-Jeff Green (could be placed in Tier 3 but I feel Ainge values him highly)

Tier #3 (Useful veterans who could help contending teams/most likely to be dealt)
-Brandon Bass
-Courtney Lee
-Kris Humphries
-Jordan Crawford

Tier #4 (Unlikely to be dealt due to unknown/low trade value)
-Phil Pressey
-Marshaun Brooks

Tier #5 (Negative trade value)
-Gerald Wallace

So you get the idea. Trades that possibly cause more losses than wins this season, but help the future of the team. Examples I've seen on various message boards recently include Brandon Bass for Meyers Leonard, Jeff Green/filler for MKG.

Fire away! Ideas or positive responses get TP's and thanks for playing

I think these tiers are fairly well compiled...I think one could argue that both Green and Wallace could be viewed in tier 3.

Anyways, I'd have to imagine that Bass and Crawford are the most likely players to be dealt. I think Humphries could be moved for minimal return or bought out. He could also be used to bring back a player on a multi-year deal whose team wants financial flexibility in the offseason. I think we are stuck with Courtney Lee. I would be okay with moving Green if it means returning a young starter (or fringe starter) and/or a 1st round pick.

I think you need to move Green to Tier 3, and Lee to Tier 5 (though certainly not in Wallace's camp -- on his own, he has the worst deal in the NBA).

And I think Tier 3 is the solution. Plently of interesting options for Green, Bass, Crawford and maybe Lee out there. Go get decent assets for 'em, and lose a few more games this year while giving minutes to rookie contract guys.

I'd do it even if it were a 2015 1st, or a top 10 protected 2014 pick (provided it rolls over).

Bass for Leonard + Freeland would be fine with me, if the Blazers would do that.

Trading Bass is probably the easiest way to lose more as it'd really disrupt our big man rotation.

He's  the veteran who the C's likely aren't keeping past his current deal (given Sullinger/Olynyk are PFs naturally)

Well they're not keeping Wallace or Lee either, but your point is well taken -- this is the right 'step one'.

I think Wallace/Lee are more replaceable given the rest of the roster (ignoring what would come "back").

Playing Vitor/Olynyk more in Bass's minutes would really hurt our defense and offensive spacing (at least till Olynyk started hitting shots)

Yep -- fair enough. Was just pointing to their futures in green past their current deals.

Wonder if Houston would be up for Jeff Green and a future pick for Asik.
