Keep in mind also that the draft is loaded with wing players. Outside of Wiggins and Parker - Young, Hood, Selden, Robinson and others. Not to mention that my personal favorite Hayward will be a FA, too.

I believe the purpose of the trade is not to get better this season, but to acquire better long term assets. The OP is venturing that Greg Monroe is a better long term asset than Jeff Green and Brandon Bass and I can't say I necessarily disagree. I floated a Green-Monroe swap on the Pistons Real GM board and it was positively received by their fans. Most are ready to move on from Monroe to acquire better complements for their roster with his free agency impending. He is a player that could be had.

I'm floored by this response from Pistons fans.

If Joe Dumars feels the same way, I hope Ainge is talking to him.
Not shocking. If Monroe can be resigned at JG's price, I'm all for it. The problem for us is the gaping hole at SF. The combination of Wallace and Singler will be downright horrid.

Truthfully, if I were Joe Dumars, I'd rather give Josh Smith's money to Monroe, and then use next year's cap space to add a true SF to the Jennings/Monroe/Drummond core.

Unfortunately for Dumars, that ship has sailed. I doubt anyone is taking Smith off of his hands.

I don't know. I always assumed the plan was to acquire Smith [without giving up any assets], play him alongside Drummond at pf, and then trade Monroe for a piece that better fits their team. A Monroe/Drummond front court was always a little questionable and now they have the opportunity to really balance out the lineup.

Basically, they bought a new house before selling their old one because it was such a great deal (total free agent, in this case).

I'd be all for it, given that we signed Monroe to a reasonable extension. Monroe / Sullinger / Olynyk would be an incredibly skilled frontline that can score, pass and rebound. Defense would be more challenging, but I think you can get there with the right system.

Jeff Green is an ok piece - but this trade makes tons of sense for both teams. Monroe is more valuable long-term and Detroit needs a roster realignment. And as mentioned earlier, SF is a position we could fill.

Waste of time?? Remember we have Rondo coming back and two first's this year.

 Monroe
 Sullinger
Jabari Parker, James Young more likely.
 Bradley
 Rondo

If we somehow got Parker that team would be awesome.

I'm impressed with the positive response of this trade proposal so far. I've thrown a lot of ideas on here and it looks as this may work for both sides. Someone call Ainge.

Nothing will probably happen before Dec 15 regardless, because that's when newly signed players are eligible to be traded.

To be honest, I'm surprised too. I made a post about a week ago that was essentially identical (Trading for Monroe) and it was met with skepticism. Defense, money, and overall fit were the chief concerns. We live in a fickle world...

Nah, that was a different discussion -- people still felt there was a good chance to pry out Drummond instead. However, it has since become abundantly clear that Drummond isn't going anywhere.

A different discussion 6 days later? It took 6 days to realize Drummond wasn't going anywhere? I think you might want to go back and check my thread out...

Just seems strange that the overall mood shifted so fast.

Not that I'm opposed - I love Monroe's game and I'd love him in green.

Perhaps I'm misremembering. There were multiple discussions about Detroit's desire to shed one of their backup bigs, and the general consensus was that people wanted Drummond, because he's the better defensive talent. It seems that was a different topic.

It's an interesting idea, but are you guys ready to pay Greg Monroe $15mill per for 5 years?

Skilled bigs under 25 will get the max and that's where I have serious hesitation. I think he still has a good deal of work to even become an average defender.

$15 million is a Kevin Love/LaMarcus Aldridge price tag, and he's no Kevin Love or LaMarcus Aldridge. He's much closer to guys like Pekovic, Nene, or Al Jefferson, who are all tagged at $12-13 million per. Still a hefty price tag, though.
