This is pending Detroit doesn't have the money to keep him. Jeff Green, Brandon Bass and a future first For Charlie V, Kyle Singler, And Greg Monroe. I might talk to you about Bradley as well with out the pick going.

For Detroit they get a chance to win now in the pathetic East and become the third best team in the conference. They can move Josh Smith to the four spot where he belongs, And lock up there most important young piece in Drummond.

 Drummond
 Josh Smith - Brandon Bass
 Jeff Green
 Stuckey - Caldwell Pope
 Brandon Jennings - Bynum

For the Celtics we suddenly have three really good young bigs, In Kelly O, Sully and Monroe I think Monroe could play Center well in the weak East and we know Sully can if he can't hang. We should be able to get a small forward or wing in the Draft.

This also gives the Pistons a chance to right there wrongs. What a bad idea Drummond, Monroe, Smith front court. Yes it's talented but obviously not an ideal chemistry fit. Green and Bass could give much better spacing on that team. And Smith can play full time Power Forward like he should the guy can't shoot.

And to the Cap experts. How much could we give Monroe, with Bass and Green off the books. We could Man him out if we wanted right? If we had to is he a Max type player.

Probably not.

I believe the purpose of the trade is not to get better this season, but to acquire better long term assets. The OP is venturing that Greg Monroe is a better long term asset than Jeff Green and Brandon Bass and I can't say I necessarily disagree. I floated a Green-Monroe swap on the Pistons Real GM board and it was positively received by their fans. Most are ready to move on from Monroe to acquire better complements for their roster with his free agency impending. He is a player that could be had.

Green and Smith are too similar of players, though Green is shooting pretty solidly so it might work.  That said I think something where you bring in a third team would make more sense.  Something like this might work for all teams (draft picks and other players as needed).

Boston - Monroe, Villanueva, Jerekbo
Chicago - Green
Detroit - Deng, Bass

2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I'm floored by this response from Pistons fans.

If Joe Dumars feels the same way, I hope Ainge is talking to him.

I am.

As I was listening to the BS Report yesterday, Simmons said that "there are pieces" there.

While defensively flawed, he's a very skilled big man.

My only concern is we might have to overpay him. He while he is steady statistically, has regressed in scoring. Not sure if that's because he gets less touches but nonetheless, his points per game are down. And I probably would not want to pay a guy a max contract averaging 7 rebounds and 16 points. Although I believe he'll get more touches, hence more points with us, as he'll be at worst the number 2 option on offense.

With that in mind, Jeff Green, Brandon Bass and Brooklyn's first rounder for Greg Monroe and Charlie Villanueva is my idea. I don't think Detorit will be swayed for a future first, they'll probably ask for next year's. And I believe that next year's pick is pretty much compensation for Villanueva's expiring deal.

I did this in NBA 2k14. It did not work and they want Avery Bradley along the deal and in return they will include Rodney Stuckey. Not bad.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Remember before the season how no one in Det would even consider Monroe for Rondo? Now we are talking Monroe for Green and pieces and, honestly, it seems reasonable. I am definitely a Jeff Green fan, but this is the kind of deal that you jump on if you are Danny. You upgrade your front court and have a very solid rotation for years to come.

Detroit gets a very athletic, skilled, borderline all-star level sf who also solves all of their lineup issues and gets a championship level back up f/c in Bass.

I get that this probably won't happen, but acquiring Monroe and keeping Rondo is a really strong step moving forward, even if it is at the expense of Jeff Green.

Not shocking. If Monroe can be resigned at JG's price, I'm all for it. The problem for us is the gaping hole at SF. The combination of Wallace and Singler will be downright horrid.

We can resign Pierce next year.  ;D

But that's actually true, for this year. But for next year?. Well, there are about 4 very good project SF's coming in next year's draft (Parker, Wiggins, Gordon, James Young), maybe 5 (Rodney Hood). We can sign a free agent. Luol Deng maybe? Rudy Gay if he opts out? Danny Granger? Trevor Ariza if we want to be cheap?

Personally, I wouldn't mind Wallace at 3. He's not the SF that we want to have if we want to win a championship, but he's not bad.

Overall, we still have assets to acquire that fix in that gaping hole at SF, along with Wallace who's a very solid plug in for the next year at least. I think it should not be a big concern.

SF seems to be a position with a lot of depth around the league currently.  With that depth and the added talent about to come in through this draft, I wouldn't be too worried about being thin at the SF going forward.  I think some will be there to be found in the draft, in FA, or by trade going forward.
