I am a Cavs fan who lives in New England and I heard an interesting trade idea and I wanted to know what Celtics fans would think...

CLE gets: Rondo and BOS 2014 first round pick
BOS gets: Kyrie

I thought it was a pretty good deal for both sides but let me know what you guys think...

I'd do it.

Seems like a pretty bad trade for the Cavs to me, though.

Well, speaking purely financially, the deal doesn't work. Cleveland would have to send out more salary.

Wow. Would any Cavs fans want to do this? I've heard that people are down on Kyrie's defense and lack of improvement, but I don't see the upside of this deal for them. For one thing, with Irving I think the Celtics would be much more likely to make the playoffs this year.

Dont like it as a Celtics fan. Big Rondo guy, not so high on Irving.

If you're talking about having that trade happen today, then I'm absolutely down. Trading a 27 year old All Star PG who's still working his way back from a torn ACL for a 21 year old All Star PG is a no brainer, even with the draft pick (Which is much worse now that you've plugged in a great player into a slot where there was no player previously).

As such, there's absolutely no way Cleveland does it.

It's easy to add salary to this. Just package Gee with Irving. Brooks may be added on our side if the Cavs need another warm body.

Right.

I'm just saying, if this idea is coming from someone purporting to know that there's heat behind it, the fact that the financials don't work might cause one to reexamine the source.

I'm generally pretty high on Irving but his play hasn't been that great this year. Has he been injured? If he's going to lead the Celts to the playoffs shouldn't the Cavs be doing better than they are?

It's a trade idea, not a trade rumour. The OP is not purporting anything.

And even if it were a rumour, those often only mention the major pieces being exchanged.

Didn't say he was. Was just pointing out that the idea, whomever the OP heard it from, doesn't work in the literal sense. More pieces would have to be included.

As for Irving, my radar is up. I think it's going to be hard for Cleveland to convince him to resign. He seems like a flight risk to me.

If I am the Celtics, I do it in a heartbeat.

I like Kyrie's game a lot.

But, no way Cleveland does this (at least I don't think.)

I think the Cavs problems are not so much centered around Kyrie but some of their other pieces like Waiters (hence the trade rumors with him), Bennett (who's turning out so far to be a bust), Bynum not being 100 percent, etc.

Plus, who knows if Mike Brown is the right man for that team.

Seems like a lot of variables in play.

I would think Kyrie is the last guy on the team the Cavs would give up on.

A more realistic target from Cleveland I'd keep an eye on is Varajeo.

I think he'd be PERFECT for the Celtics right now. HIm and Sully would be great together.

And yes, I would give up Olynyk for him.

If Varejao plays at his career pace for another 40 years he may pass KG in total rebounds
