Oh my gosh, Spanish Chocolate!

He's the guy I was hoping the Cs would take back in the 2006 draft as our point guard of the future.

As I recall, he had a nice rapport with Rudy Fernandez when they were both on the Blazers, throwing alley oops all over the place.

I also recall that he was a fairly mediocre player.  Not a very good shooter, and definitely a poor defender.  A poor man's Pablo Prigioni.

Hard to imagine he'd be much of an improvement over Pressey, and certainly more expensive.

The original article seems to say that his contract with RM goes through next season, though with a cheap buyout, and that all the offers he's considering now would have him finish the season for RM this year.

He shot only around 28.7% from three his first two years, then he shot 32.5% his third year and around 35.4% his fourth and 34.7 in his fifth year.  It seems to me that he adjusted quite well to the three point line in the NBA over time.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/rodrise01.html

He shot about 47% overall in his next to last year and 49.1% his last.  He shot 80.6% at the line his last year.

Those are not bad percentages IMHO.

He also averaged almost a 3 to 1 assist to turnover ratio.

Might be worth it for a spark off the bench and for a reasonable amount.

Meh, what's the upside? Rodriguez is what he is.

Truthfully, if we're signing PGs off the street with found money, I'd rather bring in Kendall Marshall on a cheap deal, just to evaluate him.

I agree on Marshall for this year.  Give him a look and see.  I think that they are talking about bring in Sergio NEXT year, not this year.

I hope it's that and not a prelude to a bigger deal.

Actually, it appears that the article says the C's made an offer to Sergio this past summer.  Which would make sense.  They needed a PG.  Not sure if the C's will still be interested.

He's not a great player, but he'd be an improvement over Pressey. I don't think he makes much sense unless they have a plan to move one or more of our current guards.

Yes, he would be an improvement over Pressey.  Not enough of one to justify the expenditure, though.

Like you say, not a move that makes sense unless there's another move coming to jettison one or more of the guards.
