Brooklyn currently has the 5th worst record in the league.  Atlanta has the option to swap picks with them.  If the season ended today, Brooklyn could win the lotto and end up with the #1 pick... certainly a shot at top 3.  Atlanta's pick is currently #19.  Atlanta would get the Brooklyn pick... we would get Atlanta's pick.

How confident are you that Brooklyn will continue to slide?  Personally, I think they are going to turn it around as soon as Deron Williams gets healthy.  But what do you think?

Atlanta currently has the option of swapping picks with Brooklyn.   What would you be willing to give up in order for Atlanta to relinquish that option?   Would you give up Kelly Olynyk if Atlanta waived their option to swap picks (thus ensuring that Brooklyn's pick would go to us)?  I'm not even sure if that's possible... just wondering if you'd do it.

What about flat out trading for Atlanta's 1st rounder?

Say Atlanta calls you up and says, "hey we'll give up our 2014 1st rounder and Jeff Teague for Rondo"... do you do it?  You now would have your own pick, Brooklyn's pick (guaranteed) and Atlanta's pick (guaranteed).   Anyone think it's worth it?  What if the Brooklyn pick ended up netting one of the 3 superstars?  Think about it before you dismiss it.  Theoretically Boston could continue to slide... Brooklyn could continue to slide... you could end up with Parker AND Randle.

This is just a nonsense thread.  I'm bored.  I know this is 100% unlikely to happen.  I'm just curious where everyone's head is at.   How many of you would take the gamble?

So funny. I just posted a very similar set of questions about 5 minutes ago.

Lol funny.  Interesting thought... giving up the 2016 pick in order for Atlanta to relinquish their rights to the Brooklyn swap.   Very interesting.   Looks like we are both thinking about the same stuff.

I don't think I'd do either.  I'm still pretty sure that Brooklyn will get it together and win the Atlantic.  I believe once Deron comes back, they start winning easily.  And they are only 1.5 games out of the 4th seed.

But some fans seem confident that Brooklyn is "screwed".  Would those fans put their money where their mouth is... and trade ROndo for Jeff Teague and Atlanta's 1st rounder?

How about you Boris... would you do any variation of those trades?

I would bet Brooklyn makes the Playoffs so I'd be very against this.  I think both Brooklyn and ATL will end up in the playoffs around a similar seed position so to me it's pointless.

Especially if its something like Rondo for Teague that's craziness.

I think that there is high variance in how Brooklyn might finish.  Anyone who says that Brooklyn will definitely figure things out and make the playoffs while probably winning the division is wrong.  Anyone who says that Brooklyn is screwed and their pick will be in the lottery is wrong.

Trying to acquire that pick right now is just gambling and not a good gamble.  Right now, I think you should only be willing to give up what you would be willing to give up if you knew that both Atlanta and Brooklyn finish the season with 45-50 wins.

I think the biggest downside of the Rondo trade would be that it might make Atlanta a lot better and ruin the value of the pick.

I'm also thinking that Brooklyn might improve, but maybe not by as much as some others think...even if they play .550 ball for the rest of the year, that would give them 41 wins. And I have a feeling that they will be hit with a few other injuries...they have a lot of injury-prone guys. Of course, 35 wins will probably be good enough for the playoffs in the East.

Personally I wouldn't trade our 2016 Nets pick unless it was for a 2014 pick in the 5-10 range. Right now I don't see BKN in that range, but if we hit mid-year and they project in the top half of the lottery, I'd go for it. Having two picks in the 5-10 range would give us a lot of options.

Bottom line, I guess I'd hang onto those picks for now. Like LooseCannon says, the gamble is a bit too risky as of today. And I could easily see those 16-18 picks being the centerpiece of a trade for an established star. which would be much more of a sure thing.

But, it's sure fun to think about this stuff. I think Danny has put himself in a great position...

Atlanta won't improve that much going from Teague to Rondo, Atlanta needs Teague's scoring and who knows how good Rondo will be.  I mean Teague is a 17+ 8+ player this year, it isn't like they are replacing a scrub with Rondo.

Wait till the trade deadline and see if they don't have some need they absolutely must fill right away. Otherwise...
