Since I got no responses from this in the thread about Sully being the steal of the 2012 draft and this took some time to put together, I am posting this as a new thread:

Here are the current efficiency ratings for most of the 2012 first round, excluding Meyers Leonard (who is a +21 but has ONLY played in 3 games and a total of ONLY 21 minutes) and where they were drafted is in parentheses:

1. Anthony Davis (1) - 28.40
2. Andre Drummond (9) - 21.30
3. John Henson (14) - 19.80
4. Jered Sullinger(21) - 19.30
5. Terrence Jones (18) - 19.10
6. Damian Lillard (6)- 18.60
7. Andrew Nicholson (19) - 17.60
8. Miles Plumlee (26) - 15.30
9. Jeremy Lamb (12) - 14.90
10. Dion Waters (4) - 14.20
11. Bradley Beal (3) - 13.70
12. Harrison Barnes (7) - 13.20
13. Thomas Robinson (5) - 12.80
14. Austin Rivers (10) - 12.60
15. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (2) - 12.30
16. Moe Harkless (15) - 11.30
17. Terrence Ross - 8 - 11.20

As you can see, Houston would have a close argument with Jones, especially since he just began starting recently and I believe that the Suns might have a strong argument with Plumless who was drafted at 26.

What efficiency rating is that you are using??

I always liked the simple "Birdies" Efficiency rating that is simply points + rebounds + steals + blocks + assists... subtract missed shots and turnovers.  It's the easiest way to determine who is having the best statistical seasons.

Currently for Sophomores:

1 - Anthony Davis - 27.9 (insane.  4th in the entire league)
2 - Andre Drummond - 21.1
3 - Damian Lillard - 18.1
4 - Jared Sullinger - 15.1
5 - Bradley Beal - 15
6 - John Henson - 14.9
7 - Miles Plumlee - 14.5
8 - Terrence Jones - 13.9
9 - Harrison Barnes - 12.2
10 - Jonas Valanciunas - 12

At the moment, Drummond is probably the "steal of the draft".  Taken 10th... and even as a 20 year old raw player, he's already basically beasting.  He has highest potential in that entire draft other than maybe Davis.   Drummond was the "biggest steal".  Sully was probably the 2nd biggest steal.

FWIW, some of those sophomores are playing more minutes than others.  Per-48 Efficiency are a bit different:

(only ranking players who have averaged at least 18+ minutes per game)

#1 - Davis - 38.1
#2 - Drummond - 30.6
#3 - Henson - 28.9
#4 - Terrence Jones - 28.9
#5 - Sully - 28.8
#6 - Nicholson - 27.8
#7 - Plumlee - 23.8
#8 - Lillard - 23.8
#9 - Jonas V. - 21.6
#10 - Draymond Green - 20.9

... So in other words... Right now Sully, Henson and Jones are basically having equal seasons.  Davis is the clear superstar of that draft. Drummond still probably has a higher ceiling than anyone.

I just used ESPN's ratings.  LarBrd33, could you send me the link for your's?:-))

Thanks,

Smitty

P.S.  I know there is probably a better way, but I just went to each team's page and compiled them manually:-((

If you've ever played a points-based ESPN fantasy basketball league... they are using that exact same calculation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Efficiency_%28basketball%29#EFF

(PTS + REB + AST + STL + BLK − Missed FG − Missed FT − TO) ÷ GM

Pretty simple calculation.   NBA.com recently changed their stats page.  I'm not a huge fan of it.  You can still find this stat if you dig a bit:

http://stats.nba.com/leadersGrid.html?Season=2013-14&PerMode=PerGame&Scope=S&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&StatCategory=EFF&pageNo=1&rowsPerPage=25&sortField=EFF&sortOrder=DES

It requires scrolling to the side to see the EFF stat.  I'm a little annoyed by it.  They use to have an easier way of viewing it and it would also let you just filter sophomores or just rookies.  I happen to still have the link and it still sort of works.  Unfortunately, the drop-down doesn't let you select THIS year (since it's an obsolete page).  HOwever, I found that by just selecting your desired filters, you could then just change the year in the link to 2013... and it would work.

So here you go:

EFF ranking of Sophomores:  http://www.nba.com/statistics/player/Efficiency.jsp?league=00&season=22013&conf=OVERALL&position=0&splitType=9&splitScope=GAME&qualified=N&yearsExp=1&splitDD=All%20Teams

EFF48M ranking of sophomores:  http://www.nba.com/statistics/player/Efficiency.jsp?league=00&season=22013&conf=OVERALL&position=0&splitType=9&qualified=N&yearsExp=1&sortOrder=7&splitDD=All%20Teams

*Note that both those pages will say "2012-13 EFFICIENCY LEADERS", but it's actually showing 2013-14 stats.  Like I said, it's an obsolete page that I basically hacked by changing the year in the link.

Good to see Sully on there.  He still hasn't even played a full season (or is maybe close now?  either way you get my point).  His scoring is really just starting to come on this season.  And he wasn't getting many minutes early on last year, unlike some of these other guys.

Drummond is the second coming of Shawn Kemp.  Just moves so well and can get up to the rim and finish so easily.

No one will ever quite dunk like Kemp again but I think Drummond is a very similar player.

The rebounds and blocks will be up there and at the least he is going to be scoring well from finishing and garbage points.  I would love to be building my team around Drummond right now.

So here you go:

EFF ranking of Sophomores:  http://www.nba.com/statistics/player/Efficiency.jsp?league=00&season=22013&conf=OVERALL&position=0&splitType=9&splitScope=GAME&qualified=N&yearsExp=1&splitDD=All%20Teams

EFF48M ranking of sophomores:  http://www.nba.com/statistics/player/Efficiency.jsp?league=00&season=22013&conf=OVERALL&position=0&splitType=9&qualified=N&yearsExp=1&sortOrder=7&splitDD=All%20Teams

Just a note on this... I just realized you can do some other fun things with those second links.

Link format:  nba.com/statistics/player/Efficiency.jsp?league=00&season=22013&conf=OVERALL&position=0&splitType=9&splitScope=GAME&qualified=N&yearsExp=1&splitDD=All%20Teams

Note the season=22013 ... that's what I changed to get it to show the stats for this season (2013).

The yearsExp=1 is how it shows only sophomore players... obviously that's just showing players with 1 year experience.  Fun is that you can change it to yearsExp=2 to see who from the 2011 draft is playing the best.  Or yearsExp=3 to see the best players from the 2010 draft.  You could basically use this as an easy way to re-rank every recent draft.  For instance, switching it to yearsExp=4 will show you players with 4 years experience (guys drafted in 2009)...

http://www.nba.com/statistics/player/Efficiency.jsp?league=00&season=22013&conf=OVERALL&position=0&splitType=9&splitScope=GAME&qualified=N&yearsExp=4&splitDD=All%20Teams

There you can see that Steph Curry, James Harden, Ty Lawson and Serge Ibaka are currently the guys playing the best from that draft class.  Side note:  Blake Griffin should be there, but keep in mind he missed his entire rookie season and didn't actually play until 2010... so he's appearing under yearsExp=3.  You also might be surprised that if you put yearsExp=5, you'll see Jeff Green (he should be a year earlier).  This is because Jeff missed the entire 2011-12 season and actually only has 5 years experience.  So it's not perfect... but gives you a good starting point.

There's something I agree with you on.  I miss NBA.Com's old Stats page.  The new one has some cute bells and whistles, but I find it somewhat tedious to navigate, and I can't find a straight up listing of players by efficiency like I used to.

Anyway, I've been using this site, which basically looks like it uses the same formula for efficiency as the old NBA.COM's stats site.

It might be easier than "hacking into" NBA.COMs efficiency ratings:
