I don't see DA bringing any old players on to a rebuild .    .......we need a younger Center o start and use Fav as back up

The whole rebuild is supposed to be centered around a young core so we can be contenders for years and years and then just tweak it when needed due to injuries and free agency.

Not necessarily. I'd guess Danny and Wyc would choose being good now over possibly being good in the future.

In searching for a team that would want Humphries, we need to find a team that wants to clear some cap space for this offseason so they could make a big FA signing.  It'd have to be a team decent enough already that they would have a chance to draw a big FA there.

One team that comes to mind is Atlanta.  Teague, Millsap, and Horford is a solid core of 3 guys that if they could add a superstar wing to would be a really great team.  They have $47mil committed to next season currently, so wouldn't be able to offer a max deal to anyone.

What about Humphries for Elton Brand and Lou Williams?  With the celtics also getting the rights to swap 1st round picks in some year.

Nets Atlanta 5.4 million more in cap space next offseason.

If Atlanta is interested in signing a big free agent, they would probably wait until the off-season to make a trade to clear space.  Brand is on a one-year deal anyways.

The Celtics could use their trade exception to absorb Williams in the off-season.  Lou Williams and two second round picks for some D-League guy that Ainge will sign for the rest of 2013-2014 and a couple of unguaranteed years after that would be a plausible trade.

I think it is too early to tell which teams will see themselves as contenders mid season.  What if Wade ends up needing knee surgery and goes out for the season?  A bunch of teams are going to feel like this is "their" year.

The West looks wide open.  Maybe the Lakers feel like they have a shot after Kobe comes back.  Maybe the Mavs think they do.  Houston, Golden State, and OKC are all going to feel like the West is totally winnable for them.  Minny could feel like they have a shot.  San Antonio probably doesn't make any trades but what would giving up a late first rounder for someone who could help them win a championship hurt them.

There are so many possibilities I'd be shocked if at least one move isn't made.

without the picks, i am not sure why the celtics would do this trade as opposed to letting hump walk, thereby giving the celtics salary relief.

for how long though with aging vets possibly? Could he pull it off again? We will see soon enough if that is the route he takes. I'll back him either way because you can win doing it both ways. I would just prefer being good longer with a huge window.
LET'S GO CELTICS!

I was thinking someone more like the Knicks. A team that is WAY over the luxury tax next year and needs some relief for their junk roster. Amare, Bargnani, even Chandler is injury prone.

A team that needs cap relief/tax relief and at the same time makes us worse. That is a win win.

because Boston won't have cap space next summer for anything more than a MLE type player anyway and Lou Williams is a great MLE type player that fills a void on the team (i.e. SG).  He is also pretty young so it makes sense from that standpoint.  The trade also knocks about 3 million off of Boston this year, which is huge as they are in luxury tax range.

I just don't see the point for Atlanta.  They can just move Williams this summer to a team with a trade exception or in a trade involving the player they want to sign.

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Not sure why everyone wants to make the playoffs?  We're not winning anything with this team so TANK!!!! Keep Rondo out all year, sit Sully, Green Bass, and Bradley and trade the rest of the team.  Get into the lottery and draft a stud and then with our second pick draft a promising center.  Come back next season with Rondo, our stud pick, Green, Sully and Center from the draft with a bench of Bradley, Bass, Olynyk and Fav, plus whoever else we pickup.

Good point Moranis that Williams will probably be very movable by himself this summer without having to offer the swap of draft picks.

Ehh. The East will shape up. Not much, but the Celtics aren't getting the 4th seed. and if they hold Rondo out as long as possible, they won't make the playoffs.

Knicks and Nets have both been dealing with injuries. Tyson Chandler will come back, Woodson will get fired and the Knicks will recover. If Lopez and Dwill can get healthy, the Nets will be fine. Even with how bad they are, I still see both of these teams easily finishing the season with a better record than the Celtics.
