Initial speculation is from a New York writer in a single sentence. I don't see any trade that makes much sense for the C's, though we do know that Dallas called to see if Rondo was available in the past.

A giant nothing.

This "article" is spun out the following sentence in Mitch Lawrence's column on the Knicks this past week:

In other words, it's not even a rumor, it's something somebody thought up, posted online, and then someone else ran with it to fill a quota/deadline.

Yeah I saw this yesterday..it would take more than Shane Larkin. Really there is no one else on that team. Have to be a 3rd team involved but I don't think it will happen
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

not happening, Dallas has nothing that we want

Not taking anything less than a star / borderline star with multiple draft picks

Not interested in Monta Ellis, or Dirk (at his age). And I think they are running out of ideas...wasn't this "rumor" during the summer/draft night.

The Mavs are not a good trade partner in any Rondo deal. Not sure what Lawrence is thinking (meaning, he's probably not).

So basically much ado about nothing we would give Rondo to Dallas for a bag of peanuts? No

Pure salary dump.  Not saying I would do this, but I think Ainge would probably at least consider it (if he liked Larkin).

Rondo, Wallace, Bass, Lee

for

Larkin, Marion, Wright, Ellington, Dalembert, Ledo, Crowder, Blair, 2016 1st, 3 million cash (to buy out some players which are only included to get the salary up)

Trade can't be made until January 15th at the earliest so if Rondo is back by then, it might work.  And again, I probably wouldn't do this, but I think it is something Boston wouldn't immediately reject given the massive salary savings the trade would bring.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I just can't see Danny trading away Rondo for cap space.  I'm as willing as anyone to believe that Danny could trade Rondo, but there will have to be significant return.  There's never been any serious report or rumor to the contrary.  If Rondo gets traded, the Celtics will get significant current and future assets in return.  It won't be a straight up salary dump / tanking move.

Also, honestly, I don't see the motivation for the Mavericks.  They are doing quite well with Calderon and Ellis as the backcourt.  Rondo would likely not fit (at all) with Ellis.

If the Mavericks are going to make a move to get better for this season or next, it makes far more sense to try to upgrade at the 3 or the 5.

I think Danny only trade pieces away for salary dump IF they are not going to be a star or be part of the future.

Don't argue KG and PP, because they are at the end of their career and Danny made the right move. Rondo is still young and still a young star and leader for this team. He isn't just going to trade Rondo away for scraps.

You dump salaries for people like Bass, Humphries and Wallace, but not Rondo.
