Although he might have come close to that in a competitive bidding situation (it only takes 1 fool to overpay), he's clearly not worth that kind of money at this point.  Injury aside, I expect his game will fall off, given how much of his game is built off his superior athleticism.  Indeed, will make it tough for even the Lakers to muster the additional money to get the players to contend....and I for one am fine with that.

He still sells merchandise and still fills up the arena but a very dumb move on the franchise's part.

Btw, I made a bet with my lakers' friend that the Celtics will win a championship before the Lakers.  Anyone think this is a smart bet?

I always said when I left the Celtics, I could not go to heaven, because that would
be a step down. I am pure 100 percent Celtic. I think if you slashed my wrists, my

Don't forget to share some of your winnings. The Cs have a brighter future compared to the fakers for this decade;

I am guessing $20 million per year.

Yep.  That's my guess too.

I hope not for LA's sake.

$12-15mill max I'm guessing. Mid-30's coming off a torn acl? $20mill would be awful.
Achilles tear, not torn ACL. Much shorter recovery period.

Well, there goes the Lakers' plan to get better by signing Kobe Bryant to a veteran minimum deal next year...

O.o

Can't believe some of the Lakers fans/media thought that was a remote possibility.

looks like no Lebron, or Melo :)
Wouldn't keeping Bryant make Melo more likely? Melo needs coattails to latch on to.

They weren't getting these guys as free agents. It was going to be a sign and trade anyway. That means they need Gasol to play well and then they flip him with other assets.

Kobe helps them sell the mega buck TV deals,  since they lost Dwight.......had to keep Kobe.......he is still,a huge draw and Laker Fan money pit........

Kobe's 48 million is  better than having Three Brandon Bass players,  who might actually help the team win games,  but nobody in Laker land would turn out to see ......Kobe can still fill the owners coffers ...that's what counts........money > wins  :)

LA. Fans. ..are so easy to hate

And worse prognosis typically.
