Kidd and PP sort of take backhanded shots at each other

Jason Kidd takes backhanded shot at starters, Paul Pierce delivers one back. Yup, Nets are still a mess

Jason Kidd, who watched his 3-10 squad crumble in the third quarter (again) and fall for the eighth time in nine games, sent a message by benching his entire starting lineup at the beginning of the fourth quarter. But after the Nets got blown out in another third quarter, Kidd got a message back with Paul Pierce seemingly blaming the rookie coach for the team’s struggles after halftime.

“We got to understand teams aren’t going to play the same way they did in the first half as they did in the second half because teams make adjustments, especially when they are down,” Pierce said. “And we got to realize that and adjust with that.”

As for the play of the Kidd’s high-priced starters, Kidd said he should have kept Garnett and Pierce on the bench, leaving in Mason Plumlee, Alan Anderson, Tyshawn Taylor, Mirza Teletovic and Tornike Shengelia. (For the casual fans, yes, those are all Nets.)


“They deserved to play. I should have let them play the whole game or the whole quarter,” Kidd said after wrapping up a long meeting with GM Billy King and his two assistant GMs, which they conducted in the hallways of the locker room area. “They’re playing, you know, for one another. It’s not perfect but that group that gave us an opportunity by cutting it to eight.”

Garnett, who continued his struggles with just four points on 2-of-9 shooting, took responsibility for his effort and benching, saying, “If we’re not carrying our weight, then obviously (Kidd) is going to put somebody in that is. It’s tough times right now."

And yet again... there's no correlation between a great player and a great coach. Kidd is lost out there. Worst coach in the league (Mike Brown's a close second, though).

I'm glad the nets owner is having this happen, don't believe in the idea that paying way over value to put together team for ONE season's run is a good idea.  To me that isn't a team.
Feel bad for KG and PP who are hall of fame veterans, put up with bad times in minny and boston and were always great prof. guys.
The disfunction for that team makes it look like an implosion waiting to happen

I hate it for them too. I think once the entire team or at least the main starters are healthy (whenever that may be) then we can get a true sense of what that team is. Lucky for the Nets is that they're in a weak, weak conference and  can make up some ground once they start winning some games. If they were in the West they'd certainly be done.

They rack up some more losses and it may definitely head that way. He gave an interview yesterday and said something to the effect that he hopes they're receiving his message in the locker room.

Sure they're all buddies as players and what not, but I'm not sure they ever really respected him as a "coach".

Too early to judge Kidd...
if you remember how Mark Jackson had struggled his 1st season on Warriors (2011) and look what he did on his team last season, they reached 2nd round of the playoffs

Detroit outscored the Nets by 19 points in the third quarter.  KG and PP were particularly bad in the third quarter and deserved to be benched.

Yup, the Brooklyn Meltdown is starting to reach Phase 2 - increasingly public infighting. 

Next up will be "Have they figured it out?" when they string a few wins together.  Spoiler:  Not really, though they aren't as bad as they're playing now.
