A week ago or so, I predicted a November return.  With the end of this month looming quickly, I am going to revise my prediction to an early December return.

"On the first day of Christmas, the basketball gods gave to me, one great point guard . . . "
1. Do you still see us making the playoffs?… 2. or are you revising that prediction too?

I'd be surprised to see Rondo back before January.

1. Yes.  2. No.

Of course, like everyone, I haven't a clue when Rondo will return.

But I think the formula for success for this team is to develop Sully, KO, Fav this year without RR, and then to add Rondo, a top 5 pick and 15-20 pick to Sully/KO/Fav/JG/AB/BB next year.  The options from there for developing this young team via experience, trade, draft and eventually free agency will be plentiful.

good point.  KO and Sully especially will learn the hard way to play without a pure pg. When they finally do get to play with one, it could like playing in heaven

I am also hoping that both Atlanta and Brooklyn end up bad enough that we can get a top five pick to add to our own 15-20 pick.

That seems unlikely, though.  I guess I'll be satisfied with two mid first rounders.

You have us finishing the month 7-12.  That's a 30 win pace.  Do you think we'll make the playoffs with 30 wins?... or are you still operating under the assumption Rondo comes back in a week and gets us to 41 wins?

I already said that I think it will be more like two to three weeks at this point.  And, yes, I think our winning percentage will improve with Rondo.  41 will be tough, but somewhere in the 37 to 39 range might actually be enough to be an Eastern conference playoff team this year.

I'm still rooting for wins.  I know it's the unpopular stance, but it's one I'm okay with taking.

You think it's going to take 41 wins to get into the playoffs? I'm fairy skeptical of that.

no offense dude but this team isn't going to sniff mid 30's for wins.  They will be in the low to mid 20's for wins this year.  I think Rondo sits out at least another 4-6 weeks and I do think Ainge is going to start moving guys as well.  When the dust settles at the end of the year ( Cleveland, Nets, Knicks, Detroit, Charlotte, Wiz and possibly 76'ers will all have more wins than this club)

I think when Rondo comes back will be based solely on him being medically cleared and mentally ready to play.  I don't think Ainge will do anything to force Rondo to sit beyond that point.  I hope players complain to the media if he does.

Why would anyone take offense at the fact that you are voicing your personal opinion?

Take your time, Rajon. I want to see you play again but we need us some Wiggins/Parker/Randle.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I wonder if seeing Rose go down again will make him take 'extra caution' in the recovery from a mental standpoint.

Sucks so bad for Chicago.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

It will be interesting to see when Rondo returns because I think it will give us a glimpse into how Danny is going to approach the rebuilding of this team. Will he hold Rondo out on purpose? Will we hear reports from "multiple anon. sources" that Rondo is ready to go but DA wants to tank? Or will Rondo return immediately and we make a mid season push for the 8th seed.

DA could also have Rondo return to showcase his health for an even larger DA like out of nowhere trade. Should be an interesting season.

You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

You don't have to worry any longer (I went through a few articles to find this AGAIN, just for you ;)).

He is not — repeat not — rethinking his own plans after Rose’s most recent injury.

“What’s going to happen is going to happen,” said Rondo, whose C’s beat the Charlotte Bobcats, 96-86, last night. “It’s not like he rushed, so that’s what I’m saying. He took a long time, and still things happen. It’s the game we play. It’s part of it. I can come back early and do the same thing. He came back late and it happened to him. It was just unfortunate. That’s just how it is.”

Yeah, he's saying the right things, but most people who come back from any kind of procedure to athletics have The Fear (ala hunter thompson) until you're actually out doing the thing that caused the injury... and nothing's giving away.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.
