Is Green our Luol Deng?

The two players actually have similar stats. Close to the same age. Its becoming more and more obvious that Green isn't a superstar. But he's a solid player who fits on the team and he's a fan favorite. Isn't that enough, if we're getting a high draft pick and possibly trading other pieces for another star? He only has to be the 3rd best player on the team, and he's already 2nd to Rondo.

Stats don't tell the whole story, Deng is the far superior player imo due to his effort level and consistency. If Green can become Luol Deng, I'd be a happy camper.

I think they are similar with their nitely defensive effort, but thats about it.

Deng is a superior mid range jump shooter and rebounder. His consistency is easily the biggest differentiator, though.

My initial reaction is that Deng is the better overall player.

Still, it seems that a lot of Celtics fans expect too much from Jeff Green, though perhaps some of that is Danny's fault, since he seems to portray Green as something more than he is.

At any rate, even though I understand the eagerness to see the Cs return to contention, and feel that same eagerness, it seems like some fans are letting their impatience get the best of them—they seem like they can't get rid of everyone but Rondo quickly enough. Trading for proven stars around the age of 30 may get us a title or two, but as we saw with Ray and KG, it can also bring us several injury-plagued years of frustration. If we can be patient with young bucks like Sully, KO, Green, and Bradley—maybe, MAYBE trading one or two of them for a legit star of about 27 or 28—then we might have better fortune than we did with the new big three.

As an aside, Deng makes 14M this year and likely will sustain that rate of pay as he will surely be a desirable FA this off-season.  Green earns about 9M a year over the next 3 seasons. 

I would rather have Deng at 14M than Green at 9M because night in/ night out Deng is the better player.  But Green has value at 9M.  Green plays solid D and gives you 12-18 pts most nights.  Occasionally he'll be completely invisible and occasionally he should go off for 30.

Watching Paul George last night tells the opposite story from Green -- you know he's going to get his points.  With Green you can't be sure.  Jeff standing still in the corner for 10-15 seconds is terribly frustrating to watch.

Where would you place Green on last year's team?  4th perhaps?  That didn't seem low enough for him to be as consistent as some people would like.  I like Green but as time goes by I am thinking he will never be a 1st, 2nd or 3rd option. I'd like to see him on a team that is deep enough for him to be a sixth man that can match up against less players.

The standard has to be bonafode consistent all-stars for your three top players.

I couldn't agree more that his best role is as a sixth man. The problem with green is that outside of the occasional scoring outburst and being an above average man to man defender he doesn't bring much else to the table. If green could have expanded his game and became a better rebounder or play maker he might be better suited to be a starter, but he never improved.

  The Jeff Green consistency thing is getting wildly overblown. Not that he's tremendously consistent, mind you, but other similar players are also inconsistent. People just see less of them and don't notice.
