When (the Butler Bulldogs) were on TV, I watched the game to see what I could pick up, to see what (now-Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens) did, because he did such a fine job,” Popovich said Wednesday before his Spurs downed Boston, 104-93

Quote
“I think we don’t see it enough, where ownership and GMs will actually look and say, ‘Who is coaching well?’ rather than ‘What name can I bring or what would this do or that?’” Popovich said. “But actually look around the country – it doesn’t matter what level – and say, ‘This guy is doing a hell of a job right here.’ Or maybe from another country: ‘This guy is doing a hell of a job.’ Whatever it might be. And Danny did that, so he deserves a lot of credit for it.”

More for the Boston Globe:

Quote
Popovich didn’t think there was much he could teach Stevens.

“He doesn’t need advice from me,” Popovich said. “He’s already a good coach in his own stead.”

Quote
Popovich went on to say, “In this league, with the number of games, and as talented as teams are . . . patience is probably a big commodity, especially in someone’s situation who’s used to winning night after night after night.

“It’s a little bit different when you’re rebuilding a program, and so patience on everybody’s part is really important, and Danny [Ainge] has it and he understands the situation, and all it will do is improve as time goes on, guaranteed.”

Even though they lost last night, very encouraging how they responded and competed last night. DA is looking like a genius hiring him.  He figured, we are going to suck this year, lets get Brad in here, learn the NBA game and hit the ground running next season.  My prediction is that five years from now we will look back at this hire and say, thank god he got Stevens out of Butler.

They definitely had more fight in them, and that was really encouraging. During the game the sideline reporter was talking about how after the Houston blow out Rondo challenged every guy especially the ones that were smiling and laughing too much after. He also went over film with them.

Nice hearing stories like this from Rondo
I know he'll be a great leader if he can turn down the notch of being hot headed and his hobby of bumping into refs

I wonder how he address Wallace' mouthitude in the media  ;D

I bet you Rondo wants to say something about how the Cs are playing too, but he is letting Wallace play bad guy. Pop is right, patience is key. I like what Stevens is doing, and I definitely hope he pans out in the long run.

Yep, it makes more sense for Wallace to say something since he's actually out there playing. Rondo can tell them what he's observing from the sideline.

I just hope that a few bad years here don't create public pressure to can him, right as he's really starting to become a high-quality coach.

Though I guess Danny waited it out with Doc when people were calling for his head, so there's reason for optimism.

After all of those KG postgame pressers I can't imagine what Wallace could say that would even faze Rondo.

Pop knows what a tanking season feels like.

Although in his case he lost his three best players to injury.

Worth noting that he fired Bob Hill and installed himself as coach after the Spurs started 3-15, though. ;)
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Maybe he also head butted a ref on his way to the locker room for good measure
