Anthony Davis is a top 5 player in the NBA within 3-5 years.  He is special....
Not so sure Anthony Davis isn't already a top 5 player.

He is darn close to it if he is not there already. I'd have him top seven in some order along with LeBron, Durant, Wade, Harden, K-Love and D-Howard.
Given how good he's been defensively I'd say he's top 5 this year.

He'll need to keep it up but wow.

Agreed. He's already putting up MVP-level numbers this year.

I would bet the Pelicans would not trade him for any player in the league except Lebron.
I don't think they'd trade him for LeBron even.

They don't have a team to contend with now, and LeBron can opt out.

Davis they have locked in for two more years and then can almost certainly get him for another 5. Six more years is the minimum that he'll be on their roster because even if he refuses a max extension from them for some reason they'd match any offer sheet. No way he plays for the QO for true FA with max offers out there, which is the only way he leaves sooner than 6 years from now.

...which is an illuminating example of why 1st round draft picks are so highly valued when a well-touted freshman class shows up in the college ranks. You can land yourself the next Anthony Davis. ;)

Their mascot still gives me the shivers, though.

I agree. You can also tell the main guys for the upcoming draft a legit...If they came in their first couple college games and put 11 pts and 6 rbs I would still have questions. But Wiggins, Parker and especially Randle have come already putting up some great numbers.. Those guys are all locks for NBA All Stars / Superstars...There is 0% chance any of those 3 are busts outside of freak injury type issues. NBA execs cannot lose with those 3..
2025 Fantasy Draft Philadelphia 76ers:
PG: Rajon Rondo '11-'12;  WestBrook; Wall
SG: James Harden '18-'19 Marcus Smart
SF: Andrei Kirilenko '05-'06; Peja Stojakovic
PF: Anthony Davis '17-'18;   Kevin Love, Griffin
C: Amare Stoudemire '04-'05;   Marcus Camby

Or the next Darko. Or the next Marvin Williams. Or the next Greg Oden, Sam Bowie, or Andrew Bogut.

On the other hand, the Kevin Garnett trade is an illuminating example of how Jeff Green can bring you a championship.

Nicely done indeed.

Or in other words: I understand the enticement of a high draft pick -- I just prefer to take the sure thing and let someone else bear the risk.

I guess that makes me risk-averse or something?

I was actually talking about the Jeff Green championship twist. So not only have we scientifically proven he's an above average NBA player, he was also an essential component to Banner 17.

Anyway, clearly the draft pick is ultimately worth the player you pick with it, but the chance to snag a developing superstar on a rookie deal is oftentimes worth the risk.

But what do you have against Comic Sans? :P
