from today's Globe:

"Ainge called Rondo, a four-time All-Star, "the centerpiece of our future."

He added, "Guys that are starting All-Star players just don’t come around. The special players, the transcendent players in our league, are very difficult to find and acquire. We believe Rondo is one of those guys. He’s a very special player. We value him a great deal.""

"What’s real is, he’s going nowhere," Ainge said. "That’s what’s real."

In all seriousness I think this is just Danny's way of fending off the first wave of rumors (Amare etc.), and letting Rondo know that he's highly valued.

Without some damage control, it's easy to envision that the Rondo rumors become a distraction, and maybe even something that actually damages Rondo's attitude toward the C's.

Honestly,  the Amare rumor was such a NYK pipe dream, its difficult to imagine Rondk took it seriously enough to be distracted by it.

Ainge is a tricky son of a gun. Prob increased Rondo's value another 20 percent by telling the world he is not going nowhere.

Ainge was ready to trade Rondo for Paul or Curry in the past. So i can't believe he is a total untouchable

Centerpiece of a future trade, maybe.  I'm sure the Celtics value him... a lot more than the rest of the league, apparently.  The sooner the rest of the league starts to value Rondo as much as the Celtics do, the sooner he'll be shipped out as a centerpiece of a trade that nets us our future.

Nobody's untouchable. But at least it looks like Danny's smart enough to know what he has in Rondo.

So essentially Ainge isn't going to trade Rondo for pennies on the dollar.

Color me shocked.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

In a year or two, the Cs core will average less than 25 yrs old.  Rondo is what?  28?

Is Rondo part of the future?  maybe. but will have to take that a season at a time....

"What's real is, he's going nowhere."  Wow!  Those are the strongest words I've heard yet from Ainge to indicate that Rondo is "going nowhere."

I love it.

I'm glad that Ainge is smart enough to realize that you don't trade away a talent on the level of Rajon Rondo for a couple of bucks of cap space and a few lottery tickets.
