I'd happily take Shumpert and Amare for Bass, Lee and Wallace. They want to get rid of both, and taking a smaller contract and a decent asset sounds perfect to me.

If the Knicks adds Shumpert just to unload Amare he should be fired but I happily take the deal we could trade Bradley for more assets if this happens.

If he fell out of favor with Dolan, they'll almost certainly give him away, I'd think. They're the Knicks, they do dumb things every minute.

Imagine the defense of Shumpert and Bradley together is drool worthy.

The Knicks already almost traded him for Faried.

At this point in their career, Amare vs Bass is almost a wash.  I would do that trade in any case because if for nothing else - it at least clears mins for Brooks.

Don't know if I agree with that. I think Bass is better by a good amount. No injury history, good contract, absolutely money from 15-18 feet, he plays within himself usually and he's a good soldier, never hear him complain.

Can't say much of that about Amare, I don't think. Those knees are gone, too.

This deal is not about the product on the court is about earlier salary cap flexibility.

I think I agree with that.  Bass is probably better right now.

Off topic: I still can't believe they amnestied Chauncey instead of Amare. That front office is so incompetent.

Stoudemire still looked healthy enough at that point to play at a high level, and they wanted to play him next to Chandler, so it made sense to not amnesty him.

The real incompetent move was that they picked up Billups' $14 million option a few months before amnestying him.  That's basically just burning money.

On topic - it makes sense that we might want Amar'e, he'd be an easy way to shed long-term salary without improving the roster, and the Knicks are one of the few teams willing to pay Wallace's deal.  Too bad they have almost no assets worth adding as sweeteners.
Signing Amare to that contract was incompetence. Everyone expected this to be the result of signing him. New York overpaid, considering the risk.

Are those who want to keep bass thinking clearly?
If we did this trade we would clear a whole bunch of money a year sooner than if we didn't make the trade

You would rather keep bass than to have the ability to offer a big time agent max money in 2015?

Get out of here with that nonsense....

I think it is very much Bass > Amare.

Yeah is ridiculous if we like Bass so much we can sign him the same offseason with a team that could contend for a ring.

Not making this trade does not prevent the Celtics from signing a big free agent in the summer of 2015.  It's not as if this will be the only chance to dump some of those contracts.

What it does do is make it harder for the Celtics from bringing in a big name, either through free agency or trade, in the summer of 2014, which is something I am interested in doing.

Any prospective names on that list of big names?
