Am i the only one who just doesn't see anything in KO?

I'm seeing alot of hype around here and Celticslife over our current crop of bigs and i just don't get it.

Before i move forward allow me to say that i think Sullinger has a very high ceiling. Dude could be an All-Star and i wouldn't be surprised at all. He has all the makings of a 20/10 guy. Look at his per 36 and advanced numbers. He might even be the best player on this team not named Rondo.


Moving on to Kelly O, the dude just doesn't not improve me.  I see some skills and intelligence, but nothing in brillant flashes like we saw from Sully last season.

 His body is weak and his shot looks vastly overrated. He almost never shoots after catching the ball, always does a stupid pump fake before missing or turning it over. Dude can only break double digits with starter minutes on a good night.  Sully was doing it off the bench last season. That's the real kicker. Sully is better than Kelly off the bench!!! Should tell you something.


I'm not a huge Hump fan, but i'd much rather watch him over this kid. Kelly O could definitely get his body in shape and be a [dang] good NBA player, but he'll never be anything special imo. Not like Sullinger.


My thing is i want Sullinger as my ZBO PF to go along with a Marc Gasol- Roy Hibbert type center. That is a winning combo. Kelly O just isn't starting material in a league with monsters he can't physically match up with.


Moving on to Vitor!

I like this dude alot. He can do a little bit of everything and pretty [dang] well for a rookie who was never drafted. I think he's definitely a keeper, but as a backup center. Dude has no potential as a starter, if so he would've been drafted, and we've all seen how he looks when matched up with elite NBA bigs.

I haven't seen someone at his height with this skill level since Dirk.  He is an incredible passer, can handle the ball, and runs the floor extremely well.  Also a good offensive rebounder.

I think you'll be proven very wrong as he continues in his career.

Not sure where his ceiling will be yet but I think he has a high floor.  He is just too skilled.

It seems like you're cutting him no slack for being a rookie.  Sullinger took a while to come along too.

Oly's main hype comes from his summer league performance.  I still think he can be a fine player.  Likely a player who gets bench minutes, though.

So you're very high on Sullinger (rightfully so) and so everyone who doesn't match up to his performances is no good?

Look at the other rookies.  They are all getting used to the game and Olynyk is no different.  He hasn't been the go to type scorer he was in the Summer league but he still has been productive, which is a good thing.  He finds ways to score that aren't threes or long jumpers.

I just think you are way off base.  He has flaws that you can see but he has great strengths too.  He is already one of the very best big passers in the NBA.

In your post you criticize him for being able to pump fake and be able to take the ball to the rim or make a move off a pump fake.  You realize that there are a very small number of players at this height that are even capable of doing that, right?  It's impressive.

I guess I can't specifically remember ever thinking Sully looked bad, but if you go back to 2012-13 game logs and look at Sully through mid-December, his number aren't terribly impressive.  I admit that I remember him always looking like he belonged, which I have to say hasn't always been the case with KO.  That said, I think KO has had a decent transition to the NBA and he's been playing the 5 which I don't many of us expected he'd be playing.

Kind of the way I see things. I thought he was going to be a bust, and he still could bust, but I don't think he will. Probably be a decent player but a bench player and nothing more than what Ainge called him....a complimentary player.

Sullinger is over weight and always will be. Will hold him back and lead to more and more injuries. Kelly O needs to bulk up. Vito can be a good 2nd or 3rd center off the bench.
