I thought the point of trading Paul and KG was to rebuild and get better?  I am not understanding why everyone is getting excited over this team.  Not to be negative but we are the Celtics and it's about championships.  Look at this team!! We are not winning a championship with this team so why make the playoffs? If we wanted to make the playoffs this season then we should of kept the team from last year. This team may seem good now or "clicking" but do we all honestly think we can win a title?? We should be tanking regardless of who we are or what pride we have.  I would much rather have a horrible season this year, get hopefully a top 5 pick in a deep draft and come back next year with a fully healthy Rondo, plus Green and whatever players we keep from this season along with the top 5 pick from the draft and be a team to be reckoned with next year and so on. Trade whatever players this year so we can stock up draft picks for this year draft.

Well that's nice.

I would rather watch the Celtics win games than lose them.

I agree completely

Keep rondo, let him rehab til att least february

Develop sully, ko, fav, and bradley

Se how good jeff can play as the guy

Get top 3 pick , even top 8 pick is a big trade chip

If we can't land wiggins, parker, randle , you package the pick and maybe KO or sully for a disgruntled all- star like a LaMarcus Aldridge

You now have a core of Rondo, Aldridge type , Green KO or Sully and Bradley. Still have a bunch of 1st rd picks to add depth around those guys through the draft or trades

Or we can win 35 games and get booted by Miami in 4 games....

So why are fans all excited over this team?  Do they not understand we can't win it with this team?

Can we not enjoy watching a team despite knowing there's a snowball's chance in hell that they can win a title?

Didn't realize that was a rule.

Assuming that the only reason people root for a team is that they feel it's likely that the team will come out on top of the "every sport's got one" end-of-season tournament is outrageously shortsighted, and, frankly, a disservice to the joy of watching the game of basketball.

Is excitement rational?  Are you suppressing your excitement after a win because you understand better than us?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Then there was no point in trading PP or KG

What I've bolded is the part that always gets me. Trading Pierce/KG and then becoming a decent team is possible.

From what I've seen, it's not like Brooklyn is setting the world on fire right now and I really don't want to go down another season where our guys "turn the switch off and on."

My biggest problem with DA's strategy is that he didn't acquire a couple decent free agents like a Dalembert and Mo Williams to play the point and center.

Imagine how much better we'd be if we had a complete roster. Heck, we'd probably be better than we were last year.

No doubt DA set the team up this year for a lottery pick. But as we've seen with the Red Sox, if the players put their heart into it, surprising things could happen.

Or maybe you don't understand the value of salary cap, luxury tax, and cap flexibility to go along with the high amount of future draft picks we acquired, plus additional pieces we acquired that can be used to acquire further assets?

I'd like to point out that you're buying in to the optimism that you claim serves no purpose. That's why you're bringing out the doomsayer and being all "why bother making the playoffs if we can't win a championship?"

You're upset because you think this team is going to make the playoffs.

We're at .500
After 8 games.
With 74 games to go.
There's plenty of time for us to miss the playoffs.

Stop worrying about the people who cheer for wins.

The players who would get you first-round picks for this year's draft are Sullinger and Olynyk.

If the Celtics make the playoffs this season, then they are arguably a player away from being a contender, with multiple options to acquire that player.  They have the ability to clear cap space to sign a free agent.  They can trade draft picks for a great player.  They might even find one late in the draft.

::) ::) Another "why are we winning!" thread?  Anyone who doesn't want their team to win games should be rooting for another team.  JMO.  I don't know how to even bring myself to get upset over a win!
