Is there potential for a realistic trade between Boston and Minnesota that would serve both teams?

The T-Wolves are offering a young SG and a young PF for veteran help.  That doesn't sound like anything that the Celtics need.

Both are on two-year deals, so salary considerations also come into play. The Lee dump sounds great on paper to me.

C-Lee for Shved and salary filler.

A salary dump for Boston. An upgrade at backup SG for Minny.

Yeah, was definitely thinking of that. There had been rumors last year of Wolves having interest in Lee, I seem to recall (perhaps wrongly).

Could Minnesota use another big?

They definitely need another big but I think they need a C who can defend rather than a PF.

I just don't think there are enough PF minutes available behind Kevin Love to justify the salary of someone like Bass. They could try talking Minny into playing Kevin Love at center alongside an undersized PF but that is a bad plan for Minny. Doubt it'll sell.

They could certainly use a small forward though. What about Gerald Wallace ?

I wonder where Derrick Williams' trade value is at now.

I thought it was still a fair bit over someone like Bass in the off-season but you gotta believe Derrick Williams' trade value is falling fast. By the end of the season -- or even the trade deadline -- I reckon it'll have fallen far enough that they could only get something like Bass for him.

But like I said above, I don't think they would be interested in Bass due to his salary and lack of minutes behind K-Love. I wonder if there is a three team trade there to be made. Maybe Jamal Crawford from LAC with Bass to LAC, D.Williams to Boston. I don't know.

Not that I have much interest in Williams at this point.

Talented player but has no idea how to use his talent. Doesn't look a good gamble. Already stocked at PF with young prospects in Sully and Olynyk. Would his addition cause more trouble than D.Williams is worth? Probably so.

I was wondering (wishing?) about that.

They do have Corey Brewer playing the 3 while they wait for Budinger to come back from surgery. Kevin Martin and Shved are the other wings, so I am not sure about minutes for Wallace.

Yea, I guess it's wishful thinking. Although it may depend on wether they really think Budinger will come back soon and contribute. I can see them jumping at a Jeff Green offer, but I don't see anything I would really want in return from them for green .

If I were them, I would rather run with C.Brewer and C.Budinger.

I think G.Wallace is only a minor upgrade over them at this point in his career + given that, G-Wallace is not worth the expense.

I do too. Part of me thinks he's still got some appeal as a player with potential who needs the right environment. He seemed to put up good numbers last year while Love was out.

Part of me also wonders about his drive/mentality. The old "nature vs. nurture" question.

This is really the only one that makes any sense for both sides.

I think the only trade that gets the Wolves to bite would be one involving Green.

Example:

Derrick Williams + Shved + 2014 1st

for

Jeff Green + Marshon Brooks

Only worth doing if Danny thinks Derrick can actually be a SF, obviously.

I don't think the Wolves give up on Williams just to get Bass or Lee.

The Lee for Shved idea makes some sense, but I don't know that such a lateral move is worth making just to dump some salary.  I'd only make that trade if we got a pick as well.

Gerald Wallace is a perfect compliment to Martin, love, pek, and Rubio. Plays without the ball, doesn't need plays run for him, is a vet leader, pure energy, and a solid wing defender.

Let's put this one to bed.

The Timberwolves are not going to take on Wallace's contract, regardless of his ability to be a relatively useful glue guy and leader on the floor.

Right, except you also just described Corey Brewer and Chase Budinger.

Right, except you also just described Corey Brewer, who can hit a three.

And, far more importantly, doesn't make 10 million dollars a year for the next 3 years.

In a recent interview, about 3 days ago or so, I heard Love say that he enjoys sliding over to the 5. He spoke about how it stretches defenses out and centers don't want to be defending him along the 3pt line. I think them adding a true quality 5 would be ideal, but those are few and far between. So a 3 man big rotation of Love, Pek, and Bass would be a nice alternative.

Boston

Williams
Shved
Dieng
Future 1st rd pick

Why? Williams (22) and Shved (24) are young and could potentially blossom under a new system. Dieng (23) is a project who we could send to the D-League and hope he develops. Lee has 3 more years left on his deal, Williams and Shved have 2, so at the very least we eliminate that extra year off the books. This makes us worse this year, which would likely mean a higher draft pick. The 1st rd pick won't be too high, but 1st rd picks, with the new CBA, our highly sought after and gives us an asset.

Minnesota

Bass
Lee

Why? Minnesota is looking to win now and adding veterans (Lee & Bass) would help that cause. Both Williams and Shved are not in the Wolves longterm plans and are playing a combined 26 mpg.

I think Wolves are giving up too much there by adding both Dieng and a 1st, considering they are taking on Lee's contract.
