And then package Humphries and Lee together. We can't possibly win with those youngsters. Can We? Is Stevens that amazing that he could win with a college team and Jeff Green.

Also what is a reasonable return for a Bass Wallace package or any combination of those four players I'd like to dump.

I think Ainge can dump Bass and not lose much because they have a good replacement in Humphries to take over those vacant minutes. Trade Humphries as well as Bass and Boston would have a serious shortage of reliable big men.

Trading G-Wallace would be a bigger loss for the team because he is the only other SF with legit size on the team after Jeff Green. Keith Bogans would take his minutes, a lesser replacement.

Courtney Lee would be a sizable loss in the here and now but after Rondo returns, given the way Jordan Crawford is playing, they could probably navigate things without C-Lee.

So a large downgrade at the PF + C positions and add to that the downgrade at SG + SF and Boston would go from having one of the better benches in the league to having one of the weakest. That is probably 10-12 wins right there.

PG: Rondo, Pressey
SG: Bradley, J.Crawford, M.Brooks
SF: J.Green, Bogans
PF: Sully, (FA)
 C: Olynyk, Faverani

Stevens would still have the first choice starting lineup in place for the most part (Sully instead of Bass, a change I would like). So the team wouldn't be rubbish. But the downgrade to the bench would be costly (10-12 wins I guess).

The rumor is that the Celtics will have to give up at least one first round pick to get another team to take Wallace's contract.

If you are viewing the trade as a salary dump, the Celtics have to give up picks and/or young players to trade long-term contracts for shorter contracts.  If you're expecting to get back some sort of draft pick, you should be expecting to take back a worse player on a worse contract.

I don't follow the title. You think its actually possible for the Cs to package these two alone for assets?

Bass is an asset

Wallace is totally untradable

Wallace with Bass is still...... totally untradable

My impression is that this is pure fan speculation  ???

Hopefully it is speculation because it'd be dumb to dump assets just to get rid of a contract when you're a rebuilding team.

If you dumped Bass and Wallace I think it would have little to no effect on this team.  I'm certain Ainge would dump both of them if given the chance.  We'd much rather just play the youngins major minutes for better or worse.   Gotta keep showcasing Bass and Wallace until the trade deadline, though. Same with Lee.

yeah, the way bass is playing I could see a contender trying to give up something to get him to be that "missing piece" off the bench..even Humphries as an expiring

but Wallaces contract is pretty un-movable IMO

Hopefully it is speculation because it'd be dumb to dump assets just to get rid of a contract when you're a rebuilding team.

SI's Chris Mannix tweeted that "multiple rival execs" say that will be the price to dump Wallace.

That makes sense to me because it seems like a first round pick is around the market price to dump $10m in salary.

I think it is stupid fan speculation to suggest paying that price and stupid fan speculation to propose trade that don't include that price.

If the Celtics move a big contract this season, it will be Humphries and it will involve a big contract coming back to the Celtics, not two or more players on smaller contracts.  I think any trade of Wallace has to wait until Humphries is moved or his deal expires.

despite the good defense/hustle...no one is paying wallace 10million$ for the 5.6PPG he is averaging with the celtics

They might be willing to if they have a worse player on a longer contract who is producing less.

Just wait and see if someone goes the full Blount on a big contract or gets destroyed by injury.

Wallace has once again put a bizarro line in today's game. 5 assists, 3 steals, only 1 shot.  ??? ??? ???

I'm glad he's finding a way to contribute as the point F on the second unit, but that's just odd.

He was like a plus 10. Who cares if he doesnt score a bucket. He is doing everything else for the team to win

If we lose either wallace or bass or both it would make us worse. Just keep both

Oh, I am all for that. Just trying to make sense of how a guy that used to be a 18-20 ppg scorer in the past turned into a defensive-minded distributor.
