If Bill Simmons is the "Picasso of the Trade Machine," Sam Smith is probably the Salvador Dali: when he's not completely incomprehensible, he's slightly disturbing.

Dali's art is far from completely incomprehensible.

His mustache, though... 8)

Not all of it. The Lugubrious Game?

I could dig the Constructivists and the Suprematists, even the Dadaists. Some of what the Surrealists did just seemed to me to be a bit forced, a bit contrived. Dali just struck me as being weird for weird's sake.

Except Duchamp. I like him more than I thought I would.

Only on CelticsBlog does a trade idea turn into a 20th century art conversation.

Well done.

I wouldn't do it. If that's the best offer, keep Rondo.

However, it may show a few things:
1. Injuries drop a non-"franchise" guy. Rose, out all last year, still would have had elite trade value. Perhaps if someone is not all-nba type of talent, they slide far when they are injured.

2. If this is an accurate pulse of the league (i'm skeptical) maybe it shows that Rondo's value is a lot less than we all think it is. Probably the truth is somewhere in between.

3. With the rules and talent these days, maybe the value of PG's is a lot lower than we think. Because of easier penetration and rules favoring athleticism, lots of 6'0 - 6'2 guys enter the league on rookie contracts and can give you 75-95% of what Rondo or Rose (depending on style) give you at much cheaper. So why trade an established asset and a couple picks for Rondo when there's a decent chance one of those picks you give up could give you 85% of Rondo level production and just keep all the assets?

Rose sat out over a year and so far he looks like complete garbage.  I'm in support of a Rondo trade, but I don't know if this is the way to go.

This trade suggestion is somewhere in between hilarious and outright disgraceful.

It sounds like all those CB trade threads that suggest us trading Bass, Lee and Crawford for Lemarcus Aldridge or Kevin Love.

Rondo is a top 5 PG in the league - I would say he's more like top 2.  Asik isn't even a top 10 center.  This is a joke.

top 5 definitely, a lot of people would argue for top 2.

I know for a fact most people would rank CP3, Rose, Irving above Rondo

heck, some people even put Westbrook above Rondo.

If you ask me, I say top 2 as well. A pg, a player that runs the team and makes the team better. CP3, and Rondo is definitely my top 2. However, I have yet to see Rondo post ACL tear.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I don't think Rondo is a top 2 pg in the league, and until he shows he can get 100% back to good, nobody else will either.

But that said, and I'm a huge Asik fan (I traded the rights to the pick that became Otto Porter for Asik in the DKC), I think he can almost singlehandedly turn a bad defense into an acceptable one.

But even with that, Rondo for Asik is laughable. Just terrible value.

I don't have nearly a high enough opinion of Terrence Jones and Donnie Motiejunas to want to do that trade.

There's no sense in trading Rondo for a handful of role players.  All that does is lower our ceiling in the near future even further without lowering it enough to ensure a high pick.

What he said lol

I don't see anything Houston has I'd want for Rondo.

If we are trading Rondo we better get more back for him than Asik. Terrible deal.
