If this team is hovering right around .500 and in line for possibly an 8th seed Danny could go two directions,

1. Trade his way down the standings: This means shopping aggressively Bass, Lee, and any other veterans on the team for picks/expirings.

2. Add help for a playoff run: Package some picks or assets and bring in a player to help this team win now and make a playoff push.

Danny will have some tough decisions to make in Feburary.
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

Being .500 at the trade deadline would be disastrous. Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace and Brandon Bass need to be shipped off this roster to the highest bidder because they are helping us win too many games.

I know the C's have had a good week but I still think the goal is land a high lottery pick.  One thing is apparent, Brad Steven's coached teams are prepared and they play hard for him so that is a big plus.  I think Ainge will move Lee, Bradley, Bass come the deadline.

I could see Humph moved and him trying to move Wallace.

God I hope they are not. Either way you build for the future, and if that means you can land a current all-star at the trade deadline for chips we want to move, you do it. If that causes us to make the playoffs than hopefully some of the other chips would become more desirable to other teams.

Rondo
Green
Sullinger
KO

is a good start to a competitive team IMO.

People are looking at this all wrong.

If the Celtics are at .500 (which they won't be) it will mean that
-Bass continues to play well and ups his trade value to the point where you can get an expiring and a pick.
-Humphries/Wallace plays well and can be moved for picks to a contender.
-Rondo returns back to form
-Team defense continues to be solid and Brad Stevens shows that he belongs in the NBA.
-Stevens would then be the runaway winner for coach of the year.

There is no reason why people should root against this team winning. There is value in having a young team win even if you trade the veterans at the deadline. Who the hell is going to take Wallace or Bass off our hands if the team sucks and they are supposedly big pieces of it.

Well.....if the question is what would Danny do?

I think the answer is he'll downgrade this year for next year and the year after.

Despite his lip service, I think Ainge is more concerned this season with "development", "accumulating chips" and all that happy horse you know what instead of the Celts trying to make the 7th or 8th playoff seed.

If the question is what would I do?

I would definitely try to upgrade because if this team had a halfway decent center and continue to be properly coached by BS, they are (IMO) definitely a playoff team.

Just a wait and see , ,if they continue to win , or this is just a lucky run .

I think I have underestimated the games the Celtics could potentially win this season.

Danny wont likely do nothing in that situation except try to pickup a 3 pt specialist or something

Humphries expiring contract is not only valuable to other teams but also for the celts. You trade him and need back a good young talent or picks, but also have to eat another expiring contract. It wont b easy to Faciliatate

Lee and bass are good role players. Every team needs these kind of vets. So if we dump them we need to replace them. Just counterproductive

We let the yr ride and hump is gone, brooks is gone, and likely jcraw is not brought back. We will have flexibility to add fa and room for new draft picks

I seriously doubt wallace is going anywhere soon as stevens really likes him.

If we are 500 by the deadline (imo we will) lets just get in the playoffs and see what happens. I would love to avoid the heat and play anyone else. Like indiana. Not scared of them one bit

I know we all assume that the Nets will turn things around, but what if they don't? The pick they owe us this season, is that protected? Because that changes things.

I'd take the over on that bet any day.  I wouldn't bet on the playoffs, but they won't be that bad.  They're a mediocre team, not a terrible one.

I don't think it'll alter what he would do one way or another.
