Not advocating this idea, just posting it for discussion.
NY Daily News yesterday indicated that Iman Shumpert might be available now that JR Smith and Tim Hardaway Jr. can fill that guard spot ... http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/isola-return-lead-iman-article-1.1511806

ESPN trade machine suggests that this Shumpert/Sullinger would work.

Would the upgrade from Bradley/Lee to Bradley/Shumpert be worth the downgrade from Bass/Sullinger to Bass/Humphries or Bass/Faverani, in terms of minutes played?

It rebalances the rotation for this season, but means drafting a power forward or center in next year's draft rather than a shooting guard.

While I appreciate Sullinger's defensive rebounding, he is not a defensive anchor by any means. The team is very vulnerable to giving up points in the paint when he is in the game. However, I'm reluctant to reduce the big man depth from five to four, since that makes the team very vulnerable if just one injury occurs up front.
Huh?  How do JR Smith and Tim Hardaway Jr. fill Shumpert's role as their only guard who can play defense?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

IMO, Iman Shumpert is going to make an all-star game or two before it's all said an done. The only real weakness to his game is shooting and that seems to be coming along very nicely. Given the opportunity I think he will shine. I don't know if I give up Sullinger, but I'd hope Danny's on the phone for some type of deal.

Maybe a deal like Brooks one of our Brooklyn 1sts and a 2nd rounder this year.

Shumpert is a great defender and is improving his shooting but I don't think he will be an all-star he's really bad penetrating.

I'd want nothing to do with this trade, for all the reasons mentioned above. And if the Knicks were smart - which they are manifestly not - they would be playing Schumpert and developing him more consistently. The only reason Schumpert's name cames up is because he is their only real trade chip given how poorly their roster is constructed...I watched the knicks get absolutely sliced and diced by the Spurs today - 30 plus point victory - and by all the Spurs, 1 through 15...the knicks have ENORMOUS defensive liabilities that are now even more severe with Chandler hurt....they'd be crazy to let Schumpert go now...

I think Sully for Shumpert is a no, but what about;

Boston sends Humphries, Wallace, Brooks and Lee and Knicks send Stoudemire, Shumpert, and a couple of their cheap free agent signings like Aldrich on Dec 15th.

It chops about 5 mil off our payroll this year but we don't get the Humphries expiring next.  Then again, we get out of Lee and Wallace on that third year.  Amare would be a big expiring for us next season.

No, we don't need Shumpert, we altready have his clone in Bradley, and also Sullinger is a superior player

In all seriousness, I think Shumpert is probably a better player than Bradley. I'd be curious to know if others agree.
Shumpert is definitely a better and more versatile player than Bradley. His offense is slowly coming along, but from what I've observed, he's making improvements in that department unlike Bradley.

I'd trade Sully for Shumpert in a second. Too bad the Knicks would have to agree to such a deal.

Wow, imagine a Rondo-Shumpert backcourt.

Still, not sure if I part with Sullinger to do it. Maybe if I knew I had a side deal of Bradley for a young big lined up?

In a vacuum, yea probably.

He's basically a 6'5 220 version of Avery Bradley. Sign me up

From the NYDN today...

Quote
J.R. Smith is back — for better or worse — and his presence in the lineup will take some of the scoring burden off Carmelo Anthony and possibly push Iman Shumpert closer to the exit.

“The rest of the league seems to value Iman more than the Knicks do,” said one Eastern Conference executive. “And his value is high.”

Including Shumpert in a deal for Rajon Rondo is something Mike Woodson would sign up for immediately but it’s also pure fantasy. Ask yourself, why would the Boston Celtics trade their best player to a hated rival that doesn’t have first-round picks to trade?

A more plausible scenario is moving Shumpert for Denver Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried, especially when you factor in the health of Amar’e Stoudemire and Kenyon Martin. Plus, the Knicks believe they have insurance in the backcourt with rookie Tim Hardaway Jr.

Obviously they'd do Rondo for him that's a joke.  I'd flip if that trade was made.

I saw that Isola piece (also, Danny Granger has a sore knee), but chalked it up to fantasy.

If Denver traded away cult hero Faried for Shumpert, Nuggets fans would storm the castle, as soon as they figured out which one of them could still operate a motor vehicle (and make a Taco Bell run along the way).

It is funny that one of the two guys on the Knicks who plays defense is on the trade block though, not that they don't desperately need a PG.
