Is Bass tradeable?

How much does Bass need to do before he's actually a viable trade chip?  Is he seen as a negative in a trade due to his contract or has he done enough to actually earn his ticket out of here?

He's been contributing pretty well so far this season.  He was a big part of our two wins.  He's averaging like 14 and 6 and would probably look swell on someone's bench.  Courtney Lee hasn't looked too terrible either.  What do those guys gotta do before we are able to trade them for an expiring contract WITHOUT giving up assets to get it done?

It's been said that there's no longer any such thing in the NBA as an untradeable contract.

Bass has one more year on his contract beyond this current one. He could help a potential playoff team round out its frontcourt rotation. He may not bring a lot back, but he'll garner some interest as the deadline approaches.

I think he has definite value is not overpaid. I keep thinking that some sort of deal that sends Lee and Bass to Houston for Asik will make a lot of sense for both teams. Bass's defense has been especially good, particularly according to the analytics.

What are some playoff teams that could actually benefit from having Bass and Lee on their bench?

It's not what Bass needs to do. 

You probably need a playoff team to have their starting or #1 backup power forward suffer a season-ending injury, necessitating a trade for a replacement.  That team will need to have appropriately-sized contracts that will allow the Celtics to avoid dipping into the luxury tax.

Imagine something like Jerebko and Villanueva both tearing their ACLs for Detroit, then Bass and Crawford (need to keep the Celtics out of luxury tax) for Villanueva's expiring contract and a second round pick.

You probably need that injury to occur on a team that strongly prefers a first-round playoff exit to a likely end of the lottery pick with a longshot at a top three pick.

What about a borderline playoff team who just needs some vet depth on the bench?  Like for example... the Pelicans.  I think they are a playoff team.  Anthony Davis is the 2nd coming of Kevin Garnett.  They are getting good production out of Holiday and Eric Gordon.  Ryan Anderson should be back soon.   Meanwhile, they have Tyreke Evans on their bench making like 11 mil a year for the next 4 years?  Could a Bass + Lee for Evans deal make sense if Boston wanted to take a risk on a long-term deal? 

I still think any Bass trade would be simply a salary dump for an expiring contract.

I think Houston could be interested in him. Other people Houston could go for include Ryan Anderson or Channing Frye

Ariza; Vesely + Singleton. Seraphin and Booker are heading into RFA status, so technically, they are expiring as well.

If he keeps playing at this level, his contract is a bargain for a playoff team. Unfortunately, the Cs cannot afford good role players at their current tank/rebuild plan. Albeit all the criticism Bass gets, he's been a good teammate and has given 100% effort, playing within his abilities, unlike our old friend BBD.

The good thing is Ainge isn't in need to make trades quickly. If Lee keeps improving his value and Wallace finds a way to look better, the range of trades that could be made by the Celtics before the trade deadline can be good to very good.

Right now, I think Bass+Lee+Wallace for Amare would be fair value for both teams. If Lee and Wallace improve, you could ask more than 3rd year salary relieve from the Knicks.

The showcase season is working out fine so far, Bass was the #1 priority and he's looking great.

Which the C's very well might do. Take a similar sized bad deal back and get some asset in return for the useful player.
