"Rondo is practicing, he's been cleared to have some contact, like 1-on-1, but not 5-on-5 full-court practice yet," said Ainge. "We're just taking it week by week right now, but he's not ready to come back this week. I'm not sure when he'll be cleared, but he's working really hard and we're anxious to get him ready to go."

Pressed on getting Rondo back on the floor, Ainge added: "I trust Rajon and I trust that he wants to play. Ultimately, he's going to be the one determining that, not doctors and everybody else. He's a smart kid and if he's not feeling comfortable, mentally or physically, I trust that he'll make the right decision."

Quote
"Brad and Rajon have a very good relationship and they talk all the time," said Ainge. "Rondo's out on the court and in practice -- he's practicing every day. He's got input that is certainly listened to, by all the coaches and by all the players. He's earned that respect."

Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

Hope this isn't like the Gronk situation. If he works his way into full 5 on 5 and still weeks away, could get more disgruntled teammates.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

except that everyone on the team except for Wallace realize that we are not competing for a title this year

So much for the theory that he's going to be sitting out the whole year. My guess is we see him first week of December.

Yeah, it was a partial tear so I wouldn't be shocked to see him back early December at all.

Real question is whether he finishes the season as a Boston Celtic. February will be an interesting month.

He'll be fine until someone brushes up against that atrophied calf of his. Then he'll collapse like a house of cards. LOL.

We should be well below .500 at that point.  They'll give him an extra month or so to get "110%"

How much time passed between the point that Rose was cleared for limited contact and the point when he was cleared to play by doctors?  I'm pretty sure Rose was cleared for limited contact sometime this past February or March.

I still think Rondo comes back in mid to late January.

My only fear this season.  I do not want Rondo traded under any cirmstances

About 3-4 months post-surgery, as motion and strength improve, an athlete will be able to work back into some basketball-specific activities on a limited basis. Activities like cardiovascular conditioning, stationary ball handling, and free-throw shooting will get the athlete back on the court and motivate him or her to keep pushing towards a successful full return.

The Fun Part
Once an athlete regains strength, measured by comparing the injured leg to the uninjured leg, the fun part of rehab begins, which incorporates functional movements that will help the athlete prepare for return to a dynamic sport like basketball. Plyometric activities like running, jumping, and cutting will be gradually introduced by the athletic training staff back into the athlete’s repertoire. Athletes usually progress into these activities around 4-5 months post-op.

Most athletes are able to work back into all activities between 5 to 8 months after surgery. Even though the athlete returns to team practices and play, the rehab is still not complete. As Dr. Cole stated, it usually takes 8 to 12 months to return to a high level of competition and probably more to get back to the level to which an athlete is accustomed.

Rondo's surgery was on February 12th.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Good news

So another month before full 5 v 5 contact, then another month for light game contact?

I'm with Phosita- mid to late January at the earliest- perhaps All Star break by the time he's in game shape.
His conditioning will be pretty horrid.
I guess once he's cleared for games he gets 10 mins or so for the first 5 games and works his way up? Perhaps full to 90% game fitness/confidence by mid to late January?

Remember when he gets cleared for games/limited minutes he's looking at another month of game rehab and conditioning.

11 games left in November, 12 in December, 17 in January, 11 in February, 15 in March, 8 in April.

So in a best case scenario, if he's back for full contact practice by the end of November/early December then he may play in some games mid December to Christmas in limited minutes.

He could potentially play in the last 40-50 games but I'd give him full capacity with game fitness at about the 35-40 games left mark at the earliest.( Mid January)

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
