OK, so first let me say that I am not fully endorsing this idea.  But I am bored and have been playing around with the trade machine (and stealing ideas from other threads), and I wanted to create a scenario where Danny completed the blow up to truly start from scratch on this team.  The idea of this, is by sending the veterans to teams that may want to win now. Here is what I came up with:

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=k72tk4z

Boston gets: Turkoglu (cut him before January to save $6 million), Ariza (expiring), Porter, Vesely, Harkless, Moore, 2014 Orlando first rounder, 2014 first rounder (lower of Denvers or NYK...this belongs to Orlando)

Washington gets: Jeff Green, Brandon Bass

Orlando gets: Rondo, Wallace, Danny Granger, Crawford

Indy gets: Afflalo and Nelson

Why for Indy?  They get a PG who can step in and score on a much more consistent basis, and could really put them over the top in the playoffs, and a really good all-around SG to add depth at the wing spot.

Why for Orlando?  They already have two young players to build around in Vucevic and Oladipo.  Now they can surround them with some really good veterans in Rondo and Granger who compliment them well, as well as taking a flyer on Wallace.  This makes them a real contender in the playoffs this year.

Why for Washington?  They want to win now too, and Green is a great fit for what they want to do, and has DC roots, while Bass gives them some really good depth at PF, which they need with Nene always a questionmark.

Why for Boston?  You clear the deck, and add two nice young players in Porter and Harkless, while getting two more first rounders in the loaded 2014 draft (they would both likely be mid first rounders).  Suddenly Danny would be working with a TON of cap space, and a ton of assets.  He also could turn around and trade some of their expiring contracts and draft picks right away if he wanted to.

Ultimately, this is not really a slam dunk from anyones point of view, but maybe there are parts of it that could make sense for each team.

Or

Chris, you just created the largest trade in the history of the NBA. Or at least it is real close to it.

I just have trouble giving up Rondo for such unknown quantities of mystery draft picks in a mystery location.

I do too.  And I think I would turn this trade down myself because of that.  But, I figured it was worth discussion, because it does put Danny in a VERY interesting position.

Suddenly this would be the C's roster:

Sully
Olynyk
Bradley
Porter
Harkless
Fav
Vesely (expiring)
Lee
Pressey
Brooks (expiring)
Humphries (expiring)
Bogans (expiring)
Ariza (expiring)

2014 - 4 first rounders
2015 - 2 first rounders
2016 - 2 first rounders
2017 - Option of swapping first rounders
2018 - 2 first rounders

That is a LOT to work with.  It is also a HUGE risk to not have any elite level talent on the team.

The other issue is that its very difficult to develop that many picks and young players all at once.

You'd have to consolidate things in all odds.

I'd do it in the blink of an eye.  A lottery pick, another draft pick, and Otto Porter for Rondo and Green?  Plus we dump Wallace's and Bass' deals?

That's pretty close to the ideal rebuilding trade.  I'm sympathetic to Faf's concern, but having too many draft picks is a good problem to have.

Yeah Orlando would never do it mid season. They'd wait to see what the lottery held then consider something like it perhaps.

I didn't realize Turks was still on the roster.

I'd absolutely do this, but I think you'd have a hard time selling Rondo+Oladipo+Granger+Vucevic as a true contender, unless Rondo and Granger both come back 100%.

Well, I think Orlando could top 3 protect their pick.  I also think they only do this trade if they believe Rondo and Granger are healthy, which makes them a likely playoff team in the East.

that would be the worst roster in the league  - even worse than Utah.

A lot of young role players (and Lee) mixed with lots of expiring deals and picks.  A whole lot of speculation that youth we have develop into starter-quality players (maybe KO and Sully but the rest look like backups) and that we hit gold in the lottery (the very definition of speculation).  also, nothing on the roster that would draw FA's to Boston -- have to rely on pure free agency greed to draw in players.

I'm just not too keen on what's leftover after these deals to think that we have anything less than another 5-6 years before we can even think of sniffing relevancy in the league again.

I think we'd be better off with Rondo, using the picks we have, letting the expiring deals roll off the payroll and getting our youth to develop while using Rondo to lure a good/great FA or 2 to Boston.  relevancy can come in 3 years.

I agree.  Too good to pass this up.

What, we're worried about having TOO MANY future assets?  Danny would love this.  So much to work with.

That said, I agree that it's a far-fetched trade, to say the least.

To many moving parts to ever work but if Rondo isn't the future I like the deal.

I don't see Washington or Indy doing that trade at all and there is no way Orlando would do that any time soon.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

The only part I don't see happening is Orlando giving up their 2014 1st.
