What a great season so far - seriously.

I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer here nor am I panicking but let's be realistic. One year turnarounds in the NBA by adding a superstar in the draft just do not happen without extremely special circumstances(See Tim Duncan, San Antonio).

Worst to first scenarios in the NBA almost never happen and the times it did happen, major special circumstances were involved. There are no major special circumstances happening here. So with some good cap management, some lucky ping pong balls, some smart and excellent trades and some good coaching, yeah, a 2-3 year turnaround is very possible. A one year turnaround....I just do not see it happening.

If by one year turn around you mean we are contenders, I agree.

But this team could look way better and way different in one year.  It wouldn't be surprising to me.

We could draft a stud prospect and make a huge trade and have a duo to go with Rondo.  I don't know if it will happen but it is possible.

I have been thinking the Celtics are going to try to get Kevin Love here, but the T Wolves look pretty great so far.  We will see how health holds up for them.

I do think this team can make a major turn around in a very short period. It starts with great draft selection next year, then a quality free agent signing. If a trade brings us another chip then cash it in, sign a free agent and this team, with some luck, can be at least a quality playoff team next season.

I say if you add a healthy Rondo to this group that this team is much better then what they are currently showing. Add another quality player and this team looks much better.

I'm pleased with the first 4 games.  I wish Wallace was showing more so we could lure some team into giving up an expiring contract for him.  Fact is, we are probably stuck with the bum, but in a couple seasons he could be the theo ratliff of a major trade.

I really don't think there's any way he is traded until it's the last year of his contract and it's expiring.  He is TERRIBLE.

In the interest of premature excitement, let me add that the nets are 1-2 and would be 0-3 if not for their victory v. Heat who are starting sloppy.  Let's not forget the boon to the c's if the the Nets turn out to be less than the sum of their parts.

It's a boon to Atlanta this year.

It is an interesting season...... I am not sure you can call it a great season. There are endearing qualities about this team yet they are off to an 0 and 4 start.

Continue to work hard and improve as the year goes along.

I don't think one lottery pick can change our fortunes immediately, at all.

But i do think:

1. The continued development of Olynyk, Vitor, Sully, Green, Bradley (at the two) and even Iverson as our enforcer (really hope he's with the team next year as our 3rd strin center)

2. The addition of a fully healthy Rondo

3. A top five lottery pick

4. One max contract player who's the right fit - procured either through trade or with cap space in 2015

5. A good mid level free agent signing to round things out

Could make us significantly better.

I also think all of the above are imminently possible by the end of the 2015 summer or roughly 20 months from now.

After Ainge has done the above - I'll take my lottery picks from New Jersey for the next few season as well, thank you very much.

as far as acquiring and developing players, then yes i agree. get two good ones through the draft then sign a good FA. I'm looking at a 4 or 5 year plan before we will have a legit shot at a title. develop our young bigs and our two draftees which will take a few years then we will be ready.

that argument lost credibility when the vets we've had the past few years where losing games in the 4th quarter (or coming out in any quarter with horrible effort). 

good players who are hungry for winning will win games.  less-talented players, players that make the same mistakes over and over again (regardless of experience) or players without that desire to compete hard every night to win  will continue to lose.

Didn't Derrick Rose get his team to the playoffs as a rookie and took the C's to 7 games? Then the next year the number 1 seed in the Eastern Conference?

The addition of Derrick Rose to a mediocre 33 win Chicago team(remember they got that pick not because they were bad but because they owned the Knicks pick) netted exactly 8 more wins the following year. The year following they ended up with the exact same .500 record again so Rose also does not work.

Carmelo Anthony took the Nuggets from 17-65 to 43-39.
