Part One:

1. Develop the young guys: Check

2. Let them get smacked around for 82 games: Check

3. Let them learn what it takes to win: Check

4. Assess talent - decide which young chips to keep, which to move: Check

5. Let Brad get his feet wet: Check

Part two:

1. Young guys develop well - but lose "a lot": Check

2. This lands us with a top five lottery pick: Check

3. We take one shot at a franchise changing player with this one down season: Check

4. Clear cap space over next 2 seasons while young guys develop: Check, Check, Check

5. Accumulate many, many draft picks: Check, Check, Check

6. Bring back a healthy Rondo late this year or next: Check

What is needed moving forward:

1. Use considerable cap space in the summer of 2015 to try and add:

A) One max player at a position of need
B) One or two solid Vets

I believe that with a little luck and a couple moves we could be back in legitimate ECF contention by the end of the 2015/2016 season.

Surprises so far this season, given our roster:

1. We've actually been more competitive game to game than I expected.

2. The team plays an aggressive, physical style on both ends of the court.

3. I've seen improvements on the boards in the last two games - not getting out rebounded as badly. Impressive given our lack of big players and/or inexperience. Both Detroit and Memphis are big bruising teams on the boards and we held our own.

4. That we're ranked 18th in the league defensively. Very surprised at this - again - given our roster and inexperience.

I think as our talent pool grows exponentially over th next two season - and it will, we are going to see a Brad Stevens team that is:

A) Very tough defensively and on the boards
B) Aggressive offensively
C) Disciplined with execution on both ends.

Let's not forget:

Having Rondo on the floor down the stretch of close games may have made the difference in 2-3 of the four games we've played so far.

What would these look like with:

A) Rondo back
B) Another max player
C) A top five lottery pick
D) A Marcin Gortat level Center _ $7-8 million...
E) another year or two of experience for Vitor, Sully, Olynyk, Pressey, Green, maybe even Brooks...?

Everything is going perfectly - great, great season so far.

Seriously.

Scooby - I am right there with you, great to see the development of some of these young bigs and also be competitive.

Probably get blown out by the Miami's and OKC's but part of the rebuilding process and the race for Wiggins

One thing I don't think gets enough play on these forums is that we can potentially right the ship by tanking for only one season.  We were never really in contention from 1992 - 2007, I mean think about that.  If we can get a top 3 player out of this draft which is looking more and more likely, we can be in contention for the next decade while only suffering for 1/15th of the time.

If the Celtics do continue on this track and end up in the lottery, part of me hopes they don't get Wiggins and opt for Parker or Randle. I feel like those two players can be beasts from the get-go (useful when you have an older Rondo leading), where-as Wiggins will take time to develop. That may be crazy thinking though, considering how good Wiggins could potentially be.

I don't think you can put a check by this one until they actually win.

Exactly right.  Ainge knows what the heck he's doing.  I'm glad he's in charge.

Now lets continue to develop Faverani, Olynyk, and Sullinger.  We need to see these guys night in and night out.  Let them get used to the game.

i think things are on track nicely. i don't think tank-jobs are good for teams, but i do think getting a better pick WHILE playing hard and developing young talent is very helpful. i do think we'll be competitive-but-bad this year, and then a fringe playoff team next year (and back to a top team the year after that).

I really disagree with this. This team isn't turning around in one year because we draft some 19 year old in the coming draft. None of the players in this draft have Lebron or MJ potential. They will be good but even Lebron and MJ took a couple years to turn their teams around upon landing there. If they aren't Lebron or MJ good chances are 3-4 years is a more likely turning point to being good again.

How do you know what they can or can't do coming out of the draft ?

Nobody ever knows until they hit the floor.

Draft well, Develop your youth, Manage your cap situation.

Ainge knows what he's doing.  Luck plays a part in the process as well, especially if the 'draft' is involved.  You can avoid that luck part if you trade your pick(s) for a nice proven player like Ainge did with Ray Allen.

In the interest of premature excitement, let me add that the nets are 1-2 and would be 0-3 if not for their victory v. Heat who are starting sloppy.  Let's not forget the boon to the c's if the the Nets turn out to be less than the sum of their parts.

I have no complaints about the way this season is going so far. Everything is right in line with all realistic expectations.
