Sure: Brad Stevens coached Hayward in college, so naturally Stevens' NBA team will make a trade to get Hayward.

Question: what kind of precedents do we have for college coaches jumping to the NBA and then lobbying for trades for their former players?

I could easily see this happening. Shame it couldn't happen before the deadline.

sure (tho he was the GM as well).

doc rivers could be coaching this team and i'd make the same prediction, but it certainly doesn't hurt that stevens knows and likes GH.

Right.

My problem is that people are automatically assuming Hayward is Boston-bound because of the college connection.

For all we know, Ainge may not like Hayward at all, as a player and/or the requisite financial commitment that Hayward's new contract would entail.

Or Utah might not like Jeff Green.

Yeah, or whatever else Boston hypothetically would offer up to get Hayward.

I'd rather keep Jeff, especially if he has a big year.  I dont understand the hard on for bringing Hayward and Stevens together.

i haven't posted in the forums in months -- it's not a coincidence i threw out this prediction. i also know that the Cs grew to lust GH in large part due to ryan mcd, so as for assumptions, i'd say a fair one is that the suns will also be active suitors next summer.

as for utah's taste for green, that I can't predict. and supposedly they love hayward. so obviously they'd have to balk at the money he's commanding and / or like the Cs package more than whatever else they get offered (if they get offers).

Didn't mean to make it seem like I was singling you out.

This idea has been in the wind for some time, intensifying this week, with extension talks between Hayward and the Jazz fizzling out.

But there's been little of substance beyond the drumbeat of "Butler, Butler, Butler" behind the idea of Hayward in Celtic green.

I prefer Green to Hayward, personally.  Of course, I'd be happy to have both.  The C's should be able to absorb Hayward's 1st year salary next year with their trade exception (unless he's getting ridiculously overpaid, in which case, no thanks).  All that matters is draft compensation.  Other players going to Utah are not necessary, from a salary cap perspective, in order for a S&T for Hayward.  Accordingly, only players that Utah actually wants need to be included.  Salary filler is unnecessary.

I certainly think it's possible that Hayward ends up here, but I think some of that will depend on the draft.  Hayward isn't as necessary on a team with Jabari Parker, for instance.  It's a deep draft in general, but it's particularly deep at the small forward position.  If we get one of Wiggins, Parker, Saric, or Robinson III (who is going to blow up this year, mark my words), I see no reason to have Hayward competing for those minutes.  Keep Green, and re-evaluate when his contract is done.

That worked out pretty well.
