What a freaking disgrace.  Bill Russell deserves better from the City of Boston.  Not really sure what Bill Russell's health conditions are, but even for the faint of heart, the weather is no big deal.  Im at government center right now, and there is nothing that should be preventing this from happening.
You really don't understand how disruptive extreme gusting winds are?  I couldn't hear a person talking 20 feet away from me right now, forget the feedback it would cause on a microphone.
Also, 40 mph makes cars veer on motorways, and topples over trash cans. While this is, as any forecast, inherently uncertain, I see why they wouldn't risk it.

Guys,

Just a heads up.  I spoke to someone "in the know" last night and was told that due to the weather forecast that the unveiling is going to be a private ceremony :-(  This source is about as reputable as it gets, so I wouldn't just recommend going to CHP this afternoon without first at least looking into it.

So does this mean that a CB poster actually has legit sources?  Deli Guy's gonna be so annoyed.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I just got back.  Turns out they DID have it outside (you can see in the vid above).  It was moved to 1pm, which no one in the public was told about.  I arrived around 1:20 and it was already underway (probably shortly after the cover was lifted).  As you saw, very small and if you were outside the tent, you could not see or hear who was speaking.  That said you could see them leave and it was a good crowd showing despite them trying to cancel. And it wasnt raining or very windy down there.  Im guessing the city didnt want a huge affair the day before the red sox parade.

He had two heart procedures last summer. So maybe he's a little more "faint of heart" than you think he is.

Also, why are you assuming that the City of Boston decided this and Russel had no say in it? The weather forecast shows expected gale (~40 mph wind) in the afternoon, and based on what I've observed all day (especially in the morning around Copley Sq), this sounds about par.

[Edited.] Private or public, this is a statue dedicated to a man who meant a lot to the city of Boston. It is incredibly windy today and raining pretty hard around noon time, and you think it's a disgrace?? Have you been outside, it looks like a freaking hurricane outside.
