  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.

So this is a supposedly franchise changing draft. One of those special ones that comes around every 7-10 years or so. Somewhat like the class pictured above- completely stacked. Multiple franchise guys and MVP/All Star/Dreamteam players etc...

So if we somehow ended up with two top 10 picks, who would you pick?
If you had two top 10 picks back in 1996, who would you have picked in hindsight?

1996 draft standouts:

Allen Iverson
Steve Nash
Kobe Bryant
Jermaine Oneal
Ray Allen
Stephon Marbury
Marcus camby
Shareef abdul raheem
Antoine Walker
Peja Stoljokavic

Thought this was a bit of fun.

For me:
1996
Steve Nash
Kobe

2014
Jabari Parker
Joel Embid

who you got?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Kobe (blech) and Ray.  They would have found a way to make it work.

Wiggins and Parker.

Wiggins and Parker.

If he'd have stayed healthy, the choice for 96 would have been JO and one of the top guards.

Based on their play before the NBA, the same way we're looking at the 2014 draft.

Iverson and Camby.

Wiggins and Parker/Parker and Randle/Randle and Wiggins.

Kobe and Camby.

In this year's draft, I'd go with Wiggins and Randle.

This one’s tough.  Obviously I have the benefit of hindsight in for ’96.  So with that:

It wasn’t until Nash and O’Neal’s 2nd team and 5th seasons that they become full time starters. And it took until their 6th season’s to become All-Stars.

It took Camby 8 seasons and 3 teams until he played over 70 games in a season.

Peja waited 2 more years until he played in the NBA.  So overall it took 5 seasons since he was drafted to become a full time starter, and 6 to become an All-Star.

While a full time starter right away, it took Abdur-Rahim 10 seasons to even make the playoffs.  It was 6 seasons and his 2nd team before he made his only All-Star appearance.

If I’m going for immediate results, I might have to consider:

Kobe
Antoine
(both All-Stars in year 2)

Iverson
Allen
Marbury
(full time starters right away with good stats).

And since I probably wouldn’t want to draft two guards, I might take Antoine and one of the guards (probably Kobe).  **Shudder**

Even without hindsight, I was never big on Camby and loved Walker's versatility, but know Abdur-Rahim was rated higher as a versatile forward.  So I probably would have gone with Iverson first and either Abdur-Rahim or Walker for the 2nd pick.  Still shuddering.

Same thought with '14.  Don't want to draft similar positions.  So Wiggins, and maybe Smart or Exum.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Long term strategy (with fully equipped hindsight), I take Nash and Kobe, knowing they won't give me much in year one, maybe even start them to hopefully speed up their development, maybe even center the offense around them right away.  will probably lose alot of games, but I hopefully will develop them faster.

Then I draft Duncan #1 next year.  ;D
