I'd read somewhere that Houston may try to bring him back once he's healthy (insert joke here).

Is that possible under the current CBA? Can you waive a guy under contract and then resign him that same season?

ouch! That's very painful. Too bad, I think he still has some usefulness left in him

They could always get an inferior backup C as part of an Asik deal.  I don't think they were ever planning on Camby as a primary backup C, especially with Howard's recent injury issues. 

...and don't they still have Greg Smith?  He showed some promise as a young backup last year, and played a good bit of C early on.

I think you can if you don't negotiate some sort of buy-out when you waive him.
