Why do Nets fans value Wallace so low

Almost every Nets fan post on the Internet seems to claim that Wallace is done, overpaid, and they couldn't believe that Danny Ainge would be silly enough to take that guy. However, he is arguably the best player on this team in the preseason. Has Wallace improved since last season? Or do Nets fans just have higher standard for their players?

I think Wallace is falling apart physically earlier than expected.   His heart is there , but I don't think his body ,  like what Pierce and Wade used to do, can play balls to wall 82 games here on out.

If heathy , he is a great asset for a contender off the bench.

Wallace was legitimately terrible last year.  I'm not sure why.  I went to the game in the Garden and bet my friend I'd drink a beer for every basket he would make pretty confidently, but later in the game decided I wanted to drink more than 2 beers.

He looks night and day better for us so far this year.  He isn't what he used to be but if he keeps up this play he will be a useful role player (and would be on a better team).

Wallace has been on a pretty severe downward spiral.  His raw stats were terrible last year, highlighted by his 7.7 points per game on 39.7% shooting.  Of even more concern is that his points per game, rebounds per game, points per minute, total rebounding percentage, FG%, eFG%, TS%, and PER have all steadily declined over the last four years.

He declined harder and farther than expected last season, so maybe there's some hope for a small bounceback.  Overall, though, he's a role player at this stage of his career.  He'll still provide toughness, good defense, and leadership, but he's not a guy who can successfully be a top-three option on a team (even one as bad as the Celtics).

For me it's all about expectations. I have always loved Wallace for his game effort and no back down attitude. I have never considered him a superstar.

I would love to have him on any team I was building for his approach, not becasue he is the so called superstar. He is a glue guy for me. A role model, but never considered our best player.

IMHO the Nets fans wanted a Paul Pierce type player when they got Wallace, but they got a Luol Deng type player instead. That disappointed them because they didnt get what they expected/wanted statistically.

I also have to think that with Lopez, Williams and Johnson on the roster and starting, Wallace didnt have the offensive role or production that many people envisioned.

His numbers looked okay for the first half of the season, then he completely fell off a cliff after the All-Star break.  How much of that was injury?  How much of that was being in a bad team situation where he wasn't the best fit with the rest of the roster?

The Nets didn't USE Wallace.  Like, at all.  He wasn't allowed to do the things he's done here like initiate the offense or just play free without predetermined decisions.  All they wanted him to do was catch and shoot long jumpers to maintain their spacing or move the ball along if not open.

100% of their offense was run through Williams, Lopez, Johnson, or Blatche, and the majority of that was isolation which didn't allow for off the ball cuts or team involvement (3rd to last in apg).

This led to the belief that his game was dropping off with age, but it might just be that Brooklyn was neglecting his talent (if he continues to play like this).  The Nets weren't really in the wrong; the aforementioned guys are highly efficient scorers.  Brooklyn's only problem last year was defense.  Can't blame Wallace for not being more aggressive either, he was just giving the game what it needed most (defense and glue).

Option A. He had an absolutely terrible season in Brooklyn last year.

Wallace just wasn't used properly.  I wouldn't say the Nets were to blame because the core of that team was Deron, Lopez and Joe Johnson so the ball was rightly concentrated among them.  Wallace's season is what happens when you limit a player basically only to his weakness.

Wallace isn't that much different than Andre Iguodala.  They're both multi-stat players who occupy an unique line between core and role player because they're not good outside shooters.  Iguodala has the advantage of being a more versatile ball-handler and passer while Wallace is a better rebounder.  If Iguodala was used like Wallace last season, rarely going coast to coast off the dribble and limited to spot up shooting from three, his stats would've looked horrible as well.
