Post-injury Oden, though...the jury's still out. Could range from serviceable role player to (fringe) starting caliber to bust.

Faverani could definitely end up being any of those. Faverani becoming a superstar caliber player is a stretch, though.

I don't think anyone will anoint him, even after this year.  It's his 1st year in a new league, new country.

Develop him.  The upside is tremendous and all 3 rookies this year were great finds by Danny. Pressey, Olynyk, & Faverani all deserve significant minutes this year just for development reasons alone.  It's part of the rebuilding process.

We don't have to anoint anyone, just throw them out there and see what we have going forward.

Scary to think our team might have 2 undrafted rookies playing a lot of minutes. If Babb sticks, we could have 3 undrafted rookies on the roster.

From what I've seen from Faverani (the TOR game) and what I've seen of Oden (his only 4 minutes played), this is still pretty open. Oden's upside even at 20 mpg is way bigger than Fav's at 30 mpg, but Fav might actually be able to play 30 mpg while Oden might not play 50 games.

They are the same age and Oden has played 82 more NBA games than Fav has.  I dunno... It's easy to guess Oden will never amount to squat, but if the dude can get back to where he was prior to his injury, that's someone who put up Per 36 numbers of 17 points, 13 rebounds, 3.4 blocks and 60% shooting.  No chance Fav ever puts up those kind of numbers.

Oden is still months away from being where they want him to be.  No guarantee he gets there or even plays a meaningful NBA minute...  But I'd still say Oden has infinitely more potential than Fav.

For some reason I wanted Oden to sign with the Celtics, but now after seeing Vitor, I am really happy he didn't.

What is your thoughts on Vitor. I don't think it's a fluke.

Hey, Oden played yesterday. And he even had a dunk! There's a whole article on Y!Sports about the one basket he scored for his 4 minutes on the court.

I don't think theres any media hype about the dunk.  It's more just nice to see the guy back on a court ... he hasn't played since 2009.  Some thought he'd never play another game.  He still might not... it's just baby steps and he's months away from being a real contributor.  The dunk wasn't the relevant part... it was the fact he suited up and got on a court at all.

Also I don't really see the point in comparing a borderline d-leaguer to a dude who had superstar potential and has had his career destroyed by injuries.  Apples and Oranges.  Vitor might end up a nice bench contributor some day.  Could be solid role playing NBA journeyman.  Oden could have been a dominant big in this league and has been crippled more or less since 2007.  It's like saying Fab Melo > Bill Russell.  Russell is 79 years old... give the guy a break.

Please eveyone stop!!!!  we don't have Greg Odin, we have Vitor Faverani and he looked pretty darn good last night.  why is it that when someone has a good game immediatly you guys throw him on an operating table and disect the guy.

We don't need Fav to be a superstar though.  Serviceable would be acceptable, solid would be a revelation considering we basically got him for free.

And I'm sorry Oden was never a superstar at the NBA level.  He was a superstar 'in the making' at the college level.  But he didn't even play a SINGLE game his rookie season in 2007.  In 2008 He managed 8.9 ppg, 1.1 bpg, and 7.0 rpg in 61 games.  In 2009 Oden achieved career highs of 11.1 ppg, 2.3 bpg, and 8.5 rpg in only 21 games of another injury plagued season.

Greg Oden never was a superstar, not by any normal expectations of that standard.  He's a bust of the highest proportions and Miami is hoping he can tap into his initial potential after being out of the NBA for FOUR years.
