Quote
Baxter Holmes ‏@BaxterHolmes 8m
Gerald Wallace: “We’re just going through the motions, it seems like, without effort. We can’t afford to do that.”

Baxter Holmes ‏@BaxterHolmes 5m
Wallace: “Guys are out there being selfish. The opponent is giving it their all, regardless of how the night is going.”

Baxter Holmes ‏@BaxterHolmes 5m
Wallace: “These teams are coming out wanting to win and get better. Right now, we’re not doing that.”

Wallace: "We had some good spurts, but when it came down to it, they were determined to win the game, and we weren’t."

Steve Bulpett ‏@SteveBHoop 3m
GWallace after loss: "I was always taught you can't teach effort. Either they got it or they don't. Either you want to win or you don’t

Steve Bulpett ‏@SteveBHoop 2m
GW: "We get paid to do this. We're professionals. You should want to go out every night and win. It shouldn’t be a question of the effort."

I don't mind him calling it out because one thing's for sure with him, he gives energy whenever he's on the floor. Should be interesting to see how this is received by the other teammates.

Don't mind it at all. I kind of think that's part of Wallace's role. He's one of the leading vets on this team, contract be [dang]ed...

Yep. He really speaks his mind and I like that. Especially when he's out there playing hard.

best player on the squad at this point.

As long as he's not challenging Stevens chalk it up to leadership. Something we need.

I'm sure guys are being selfish, I mean, Brooks put up more shots in short minutes than anyone else on the team for example. Other guys do look like they are just going through the motions. The problem is, there are no defined roles, guys are all vying for playing time and opportunities and some for future contracts. It starts from the top, Stevens has to set roles.

You are correct. Everyone wants to be the one to save the day. On another note, I'm not feeling the lineup of Bass w/ Sully at the 5...I DON'T LIKE IT.

I am all for Wallace taking a leadership role.  I mean we have RR and Wallace.  Pretty much everyone else isn't really a vocal leader that is going to tell it like it is.

I am sure it is frustrating for Wallace personally to get moved to a rebuilding team.  It probably won't be the last time there is some frustration bubbling up.

I agree, I hate that combination. Sullinger and Bass should never play together, never mind start together

I haven't been able to watch all the games, are these "lulls" that the C's go through in the 3rd qtr (the one's we're so familiar with last season)or is spurts throughout the entire game?

From the little bit of the preseason I have seen, I think this has to be meant towards mostly some of the younger guys. Brooks, Crawford, Pressey, Olynyk, Sullinger and Green have all had many selfish plays with poor shot selection and have had spurts where the effort defensively has not been there.

Now I know I missed some games. I know Sully and Olynyk and Crawford have had their moments in games I have missed. But from what I have seen, these guys could definitely be guys he means.

Honestly, Wallace and Bradley are the only guys that have given 100% both offensively and defensively just about all the time on the whole team.

Sullinger should not be shooting threes, Brooks doesn't play hard on D, Pressey DNP tonight I think so not him.   Maybe it was directed towards the vets.  Green, Humphries should be playing better than they are folks.

Oly has been more less selfish than selfish but he is soft and a finesse guy.  I doubt he is one of the guys.

Wallace has a point.

Agree, this craziness of just letting everybody bomb away is no way to play basketball

The team frankly looks like it doesn't even have a coach .

Hope things turn around ,  but lack of a clear direction is not a good thing at the professional level.

I am far from a tanking advocate, but if I were, I'd be advocating playing Sullinger and Bass together a lot.  If anyone wants to tank but doesn't want to see that combo, then you're not doing it right.

LOVE it. If the team sucks, then something needs to be done about it, even if putting together an awful team is what Danny Ainge is going for. Good for Wallace!

Go back to the game where PJ Carlisimo was the color analyst. He identified Wallace as a guy who gives maximum effort all the time - even in practice.  So him calling out teammates to me is telling.

Agreed, big test for Stevens early.  Biggest thing I think he has to fight is a lot of these guys know they're not here for the long haul.  That I think is going to be a big problem.
