I think he needs a new start. When you're drafted #2 to a team with Kevin Love as your starting PF and Michael Beasley as your starting SF who plays a lot of PF as well, and you're a forward, it's gonna be tough. He hasn't found his groove in Minny and I think he needs a new start with a rebuilding team.

What if we traded for him? Bass and Brooks for Williams and Othyus Jeffers (just for salary purposes)? I say we should go for it if we get the chance. He's gonna be a restricted FA this summer I believe so we can always let him walk or renew him depending on how he does.

He should see some PT at Minnesota now..Michael Beasley is gone to Miami, Chase Budinger is out with a knee injury, Kevin Martin is the SG..Shabazz Mohamend will split between SG/SF..Corey Brewer may be the starting SF but Williams will see a lot of minutes
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

If you could get him for Bass, sure, because the worst that happens is you save salary room for next year.  I don't see that being a viable trade, however.  If he flames out early in the year, Minny can just let him walk instead of taking on Bass's salary, and I doubt Brooks would be interesting enough to change that situation.

Just realized that Williams is not a free agent until 2015 offseason, so the OPs trade makes a little more sense if Minny has tired of him, since Bass's  salary is comparable for the next two seasons.  Still unlikely, since the optics of trading the former #2 pick for a generic big man is not good, but there have been worse trades proposed, including some by me , probably.

It would take a lot more than Bass and Brooks but I would put together a little package for him.  I'd give them Green or anything they may want other than Rondo, Olynyk, or Sullinger.   But then again, Williams, Olynyk and Sullinger may be one too many prospects who need some minutes at the 4.

Great.

Another underachiever to be added to our team. Green, Bass, Lee, and now derick williams.
Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

Williams may very well turn out to be an underachiever but it's not set in stone like with those other guys.

I would be down for a Wallace for Williams and Shved deal.  It even got the stamp of approval from the ESPN trade machine.

If all these three were on one-year deals, making it a talent for talent trade, I think Minnesota would take it.  I don't think they've been impressed with Williams and it doesn't appear they'll pick up his option for next season, making him a free agent.  Shved was very erratic last season and has continued to be so this preseason.  If Wallace only had two years left they might take it but three years might understandly be too much for them.  If Wallace resumes playing like he did before last season, which is a definite possibility, I think it's possible Minnesota could be interested during the season.  They've basically already committed to their core so they're trying to win now.  Wallace would help them more than Williams and Shved.

I'd be more interested in Shved than Williams because I liked what I saw when I watched his CSKA Moscow games but it's hard not to see him as a worse shooting Russian Jordan Crawford.  Williams is a tweener who lacks the ability to drive and finish around the hoop or be highly proficient from deep.  This deal would be more about clearing Wallace's salary.  The Celtics still wouldn't have a ton of cap space but seeing how they scouted well with Vitor, I'd like to see who else they can get.

It all depends on what we are giving up for him. He is, like a lot of players on our team, a good supporting player who will likely never end up being a star. We are also pretty set at the PF position, but if the offer was right definitely a good pickup.

meh, he hasn't done anything yet.  If he can't beat out Beas for time, especially with Love out a lot with injuries, I'm not going to get too excited about adding yet another PF to this team.

Minny, or any team that might trade for him, has until the end of the season to either pick up or decline his option for next season.
