  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
An idea that floated in my mind.

Both are the playing the same position. One seems to be under achieving and is paid a lot but is a proven talented, borderline all star while the other has shown he's really good but can't bring it consistently. Both can play very good defense, Gay seems to be better at creating his own offense but Green seems to be more efficient. Both are athletic.

I don't have a body that resembles a legit trade but let's just put it this way, will you trade Rudy Gay and his either expiring contract or 19 million last year for Jeff Green?

I was literally just thinking about posting a topic on this. Honestly, I'd rather have Rudy. Yes, he's a bit overpaid but he's just a better player than Jeff. He think he has more natural talent and a better feel for the game.

Was thinking of the same thing. Gay is a proven player. At worse he's a big expiring contract. I believe he's overall a better player and when he's engaged, maybe a better defender than Green.

But that's the problem, he's nor really "engaged" all the time. He's got bad shot selection and not as efficient.

But I think I'll take the bad with the good, he's very talented and I think much talented than Green is. I'd personally trade for him and swap Green and maybe Crash or Humph to make the salaries even.

I'd rather have Rudy Fernández than Rudy Gay.

Talent is there, but he's not a Celtic, and at that money? No, thanks.

I think Green still has some upside, not Gay.  Green.

Id rather have Jeff Green. Rudy Gay's contract would make all the issues they share (inconsistency chief among them) just way more evident, each and every game. Every day. Every hour. It would be wayyyy easier if we were winning, but we're not winning squat next season, by design. Gerald Wallace not justifying his contract we can manage, cuz it's just accepted he's not that good, and not a part of the Celtics future. Same goes for Keith Bogans really. But Jeff Green at half Gay's price tag for what will probably be similar production and a similar win count is a way easier bitter pill to swallow.

Not necessarily convinced that JG is a Celtic either. He's got a long way to go to earn his stripes.

It might depend on the money.  All other things equal almost certainly Gay.

Does he? I'm not trying to rag on him, but I think if we were going to see a marked improvement in his game, we would have seen it by now. He's 27 and has been in the league for for 5 years already. He's still the same player he's always been - one who does a lot of things well but nothing great and doesn't necessarily stand out.

He and Rudy are the same age, I think a week apart to be exact. So why does have upside and not the other? It just seems like fools gold some C's fans trick tthemselves into.

In a league where featured 3s are rare, Rudy Gay is absolutely a borderline all-star, or at least has played so in the past . Questionable effort, poor shot selection hold him back, but keep in mind Paul George wasn't any better offensively last year.

You can count the number of featured SFs in the league on one hand.

Lebron
Melo
Pierce
Durant (not in this order of course)
Iggy
George
(Cue Princess Bride references)

Then who? Deng, Batum, Leonard...they're all at best the third best players on their teams. Rudy Gay and Jeff Green both will likely be the best or second best player on the floor for their teams during large chunks next season. After them it's all specialists or clear second tier players. Gallinari, Parsons, Barnes, Harris..those guys could 'make the jump' next year, but haven't yet and all of them outside of Harris will play a clear third or fourth fiddle coming into the all star weekend.

I'd take Gay's contract over Green's because it has one less year on it.  If neither guy is a core part of the future, I'd rather have the contract that ends earlier.  It's not as if the Celtics are going to be major players in free agency anyway so Gay's bigger contract wouldn't impede their plans.

They're very similar players.  Gay's biggest advantage is on the boards where he's grabbed a higher percentage of rebounds at small forward than Green has at power forward.  Gay's offensive efficiency has fallen off a cliff the past few seasons so Green has an advantage there.  Both are good individual defenders but below-average team defenders.  Neither pass that much (although Gay has gotten better at this).
