“His intellect is different than some,” Adams said. “He’s much more engaged with what’s going on around him. I’m not talking about sport — I’m talking about life in general. He’s very respectful of people when they have something to say. I’m not talking from a coaching standpoint. It’s just from my social interactions with him.”
“I was pleasantly surprised because he’s made some good progress over the last couple of years in terms of shooting,” said Adams. “Physically, he’s better than I thought he would be. He likes the small things about the game and trying to work on them. He’s really done a great job in that regard. He’s so bright that he understands that the small things lead to the bigger successes. From that standpoint he’s just a delight to work with
“He’s got fairly sound mechanics. Remember that Derrick wasn’t a real shooter for a couple of years and not at all coming out of university,” he said. “But if he dedicates himself like he dedicates himself now he can become solid.
